Commentary: Are alpha-2 agonist really effective in children with tics with comorbid ADHD? A commentary on Whittington et al. (2016).

In this issue, Whittington et al. (2016) present a systematic review that reports the efficacy of three primary treatments for children with Tourette syndrome (TS) - (a) α2-adrenergic receptor agonists; (b) antipsychotic medications; and (c) habit reversal training/comprehensive behavioral intervention. In this commentary, we highlight the large degree of heterogeneity observed in the meta-analysis of trials involving alpha-2 agonist medications and present possible explanations for the observed heterogeneity. Among these possible explanations is the possibility that presence of comorbid ADHD

Water fluoridation as a population strategy for reducing oral health inequalities: high-dimensional effect heterogeneity analysis using machine learning.

BACKGROUND: Dental caries is the most prevalent disease worldwide, associated with substantial health inequalities. Water fluoridation is a population strategy shown to effectively prevent dental caries; however, its impact on health inequalities remains inconclusive. We investigated the high-dimensional effect heterogeneity of water fluoridation in preventing dental caries among children in Australia. METHODS: Data from the National Child Oral Health Study-a national representative study conducted in 2012-14, linked to the information on lifetime exposure to fluoridated water-were analysed (

Heterogeneity of peripheral immune cell landscape in systemic lupus erythematosus patients after belimumab treatment.

OBJECTIVES: The diversity and heterogeneity of circulating immune cells have been extensively investigated in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). However, little is known about the influence of belimumab, an anti-BAFF (B cell-activating factor) monoclonal antibody, on the heterogeneity of peripheral immune cell landscape in SLE patients. In this study, we aimed to investigate the altering effect of belimumab on autoimmunity in SLE. METHODS: The single-cell RNA sequence revealed a total of 11 cell clusters by comparing the transcriptome profiles of 24.869 peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PB

A Clinical Predictor of Lung Molecular Endotype Identifies Heterogeneity in Corticosteroid Response in Severe COVID-19: an Emulated Target Trial.

BACKGROUND: Corticosteroids reduce mortality in severe COVID-19 requiring oxygen or invasive mechanical ventilation, yet emerging data suggest that SARS-CoV-2-associated acute lung injury is biologically heterogeneous and that treatment response may vary across molecularly defined disease states. Lung-derived molecular endotypes of severe COVID-19-associated acute lung injury have been described, but direct molecular profiling is not routinely available at the bedside. We evaluated whether a clinical predictor of previously defined lung molecular endotype identifies heterogeneity in corticoste

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

BACKGROUND: Orthokeratology (OK) has a significant effect on the control of myopia progression, and has been accepted by doctors and patients. A small number of studies have shown that the combination of OK and atropine can enhance myopia control. However, owing to individual differences, research groups, drug concentrations, and research design differences, the safety and effectiveness of the combined treatment still need to be verified. Therefore, the present meta-analysis aimed to determine the effect of 0.01% atropine on ocular axial elongation in myopic children. METHODS: We searched the

N6-methyladenosine RNA modification in cancer therapeutic resistance: Current status and perspectives.

Several strategies, including chemotherapy and radiotherapy, have improved therapeutic outcomes among cancer patients in clinical practice. However, due to their heterogeneity, cancer cells frequently display primary or acquired therapeutic resistance, thereby resulting in treatment failure. The mechanisms underlying cancer therapeutic resistance are complex and varied. Among them, N6-methyladenosine (m6A) RNA modification has gained increasing attention as a potential determinant of therapy resistance within various cancers. In this review, we primarily describe evidence for the effect of the

Quantitative assessment of synovial inflammation by dynamic gadolinium-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging. A study of the effect of intra-articular methylprednisolone on the rate of early synovial enhancement.

The effect of temporary inflammatory suppression on synovial membrane enhancement, as determined by dynamic and static gadolinium-DTPA enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), was studied. MRI of 18 arthritic knees was performed before and 1, 7, 30 and 180 days after intra-articular methylprednisolone injection until clinical relapse. MRI of another six knees was performed twice within 2-4 days in order to assess interobserver and inter-MRI variation. The rate of early enhancement of the entire synovial membrane of a pre-selected central sagittal slice (REEsyn, tot), determined by dynamic T1-

Low-dose intravenous immunoglobulin for children with newly diagnosed immune thrombocytopenia: protocol of a systematic review and meta-analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) is a first-line treatment for children with newly diagnosed immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). However, the cost of IVIg is high. Higher doses of IVIg are associated with a more insupportable financial burden to paediatric patients' families and may produce more adverse reactions. Whether low-dose IVIg can quickly stop bleeding and induce a durable response in treating children with newly diagnosed ITP is not yet established. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: We will extensively search five English databases (PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Central Reg
