[Clinical study of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma--results of the Kanazawa University-Kurume University Cooperative Study on Malignant Lymphomas].

Ninety-two patients with previously untreated non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) were studied multidisciplinarily. The high incidence of NHL in elderly men (older than 60 years) was confirmed. With regard to the initial site, 51 patients (55.5%) were affected in the nodal region while other patients were affected in the extranodal or Waldeyer's ring region. Eighty-two patients (89.1%) were diagnosed as having diffuse lymphoma, and 47 of these patients were further classified into large cell type (LSG classification). Surface marker analysis revealed that the incidence of B cell-type NHL was twice as

Self-efficacy, mindfulness, and perceived social support as resources to maintain the mental health of students in Switzerland's universities of applied sciences: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Switzerland's student population is at a particularly high risk of developing mental health disorders, creating a major challenge for Switzerland's higher education establishments. Research to date has primarily sought to identify the risk factors affecting students' mental health; however, their exposure to these factors is often unavoidable. Thus, the present study adopted a salutogenic approach focussing on the determinants of health. We examined the mental health resources available to students reported in the literature as being susceptible to helping them maintain good mental

Universal versus targeted screening for HCV infection in pregnancy in a diverse, multi-ethnic population: Universal screening is more comprehensive.

Universal hepatitis C screening in pregnancy is not recommended by NICE due to a lack of effective interventions to prevent mother to child transmission (MTCT) and is only offered to pregnant women at increased risk of infection (intra-venous drug use [IVDU] or with a HCV positive family member). No testing is offered to patients from high endemic areas. However, data regarding true seroprevalence in multi-ethnic inner-city populations in the UK are required. This study aimed to determine test positivity rates of HCV infection in an unselected South East London ethnically diverse population of

An international survey of physicians regarding clinical trials: a comparison between Kyoto University Hospital and Seoul National University Hospital.

BACKGROUND: International clinical trials are now rapidly expanding into Asia. However, the proportion of global trials is higher in South Korea compared to Japan despite implementation of similar governmental support in both countries. The difference in clinical trial environment might influence the respective physicians' attitudes and experience towards clinical trials. Therefore, we designed a questionnaire to explore how physicians conceive the issues surrounding clinical trials in both countries. METHODS: A questionnaire survey was conducted at Kyoto University Hospital (KUHP) and Seoul

Patient cases with malignant otitis externa at the university clinic of Ludwig Maximilians University Munich from 2009 until 2020.

Malignant otitis externa (MOE) is a rare, potentially life-threatening disease. It involves inflammation of the external auditory canal with concomitant osteomyelitis of the temporal bone, usually with evidence of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The patient population is often immunocompromised, mostly due to inadequately treated type 2 diabetes mellitus or the use of immunosuppressants. Erosion of the temporal bone is common and can lead to complications such as peripheral facial nerve paralysis, meningitis, and/or cochlear and vestibular damage. The treatment of choice is usually several weeks of an
