Schistosomiasis and sarcoma of the urinary bladder.

A young male patient with schistosomiasis and sarcoma of the urinary bladder is presented. Total cystectomy followed by radiotherapy was performed. The gross appearance, microscopic findings of the tumor and an outline of the disease are discussed.

[Rhabdomyosarcoma of the bladder in a 2-year-old boy].

A case of rarely occurring rhabdomyosarcoma of the urinary bladder in a boy of 2 is presented. The period from the first clinical manifestations (pyuria, macrohematuria) to death was 4 months. Urological examinations were done at the period of manifest clinical signs of disuria. A tumour of the urinary bladder almost completely filling the lumen was found in the form of numerous papillary-polyplike formations, with uropassage disorders. On the materials of operation biopsy the histological conclusion of urinary bladder rhabdomyosarcoma was reached. The death occurred with urogenic infection an

Description of a case of mesonephrogenic adenocarcinoma with atypical dominance of urological manifestation of the vesical neck. Reference to the difficult problems of making the histological with the help of delimited excisions of tissue in such rare, extraordinarily differentiated tumours.

The many faces of urothelial carcinoma: an update with an emphasis on recently described variants.

Urothelial carcinoma is well known for its divergent differentiation. Several "variant" morphologies have been described in the literature in recent years and have additionally been recognized in the recent World Health Organization classification of urothelial neoplasms. The importance of recognizing these variant histologies lies in the potential diagnostic, prognostic, or therapeutic implications that accompany these diagnoses. The range of variant morphology seen in the urinary bladder may also be seen in urothelial tumors of the renal pelvis. Herein we review select variants of urothelial

Papillary and polypoid cystitis. A report of eight cases.

Eight patients from 20 months to 79 years of age (average, 49 years) with papillary or polypoid inflammatory lesions of the urinary bladder were studied. On cystoscopic examination or initial pathologic examination, several of the lesions were thought to be neoplasms. Their clinical and pathologic features, however, were typical for papillary and polypoid cystitis. Microscopic examination disclosed thin, finger-like papillae or broad-based polypoid lesions with prominent stromal edema typically associated with chronic inflammation. The lesions were covered by, and adjacent to, urothelium that

The risk of upper tract recurrence following cystectomy in patients with transitional cell carcinoma involving the distal ureter.

PURPOSE: Risk factors for the development of an upper urinary tract transitional cell carcinoma following radical cystectomy are identified. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The records of 430 patients who underwent cystectomy for transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder between 1981 and 1988 were retrospectively reviewed. RESULTS: Upper tract tumors developed in 11 patients (2.6%) at a median of 40 months after radical cystectomy. Of the potential risk factors evaluated only the presence of transitional cell carcinoma within the distal ureter showed a statistically significant correlation with uppe

Spontaneous rupture of urinary bladder: a case report and review.

Spontaneous rupture of the bladder is a rare event. The clinical presentation shows the signs and symptoms of peritonitis, but the diagnosis is made at the operating table. This event is burdened with a high mortality rate. We present a case report of a 73-year-old man who came to our observation. He was a chronic carrier of urinary catheter, at least 7 times removed traumatically by himself. At the time of admission he showed drastic reduction in urine output, absence of hydronephrosis, normal functioning of the catheter, a tense and widely meteoric abdomen, the presence of air-fluid levels,

Bladder stromal tumor of uncertain malignant potential arising in ectopic prostatic tissue: Case report with MRI-pathology correlation.

Stromal tumor of uncertain malignant potential (STUMP) is a rare mesenchymal neoplasm of the prostate with variable biological behavior and limited radiologic characterization. Most reported cases arise within the prostate gland. Ectopic prostatic tissue, defined as histologically confirmed prostate tissue outside the gland, is uncommon and most frequently identified in the bladder trigone, bladder neck, or urethra. We report the case of a 74 year-old man with a history of transurethral resection of the prostate who underwent prostate MRI due to elevated prostate-specific antigen levels. Imagi

Impact of variant histology on upstaging and survival in patients with nonmuscle invasive bladder cancer undergoing radical cystectomy.

INTRODUCTION: Variant histology (VH) of urothelial carcinoma is uncommon and frequently presents at the muscle-invasive stage. VH is considering a significant risk factor for progression among patients with nonmuscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). While there is some debate, expert opinion is generally that upfront radical cystectomy (RC) should be consider for these patients. Limited data exists to support this position. In this study, we sought to examine the rate of upstaging and overall survival for patients with VH NMIBC against patients with pure urothelial NMIBC who underwent RC, to h

Intradiploic meningioma mimicking calvarial metastasis: case report.

Meningiomas are the most common benign intracranial neoplasms. Nearly 20% of all primary intracranial tumors are meningiomas. Primary intraosseous meningiomas are a subtype of the meningiomas that represents the most uncommon manifestation of meningiomas. Although rare, these tumors can be found to occur in unexpected areas of the head and neck. The patient was a 78- year-old male who was operated two times for urinary bladder cancer. During his routine oncology follow-ups, the PET scan demonstrated a hyperactive area in the right parietal bone. Preoperative diagnosis was a metastasis, but his

Bladder Cancer and Vesical Imaging-Reporting and Data System: An Updated Review.

Bladder cancer is a prevalent malignancy with a significant societal burden. Treatment strategies and prognosis are largely determined by the degree of local tumor invasion into the bladder wall. The Vesical Imaging-Reporting and Data System (VI-RADS) is a standardized, MR imaging-based scoring system specifically designed to assess muscular invasion in bladder cancer. VI-RADS effectively differentiates between nonmuscle invasive bladder cancer and muscle-invasive bladder cancer. By providing an accurate and non-invasive evaluation of tumor depth, location, and stage, VI-RADS facilitates effec

Bladder Preservation After Neoadjuvant Therapy for Muscle-invasive Bladder Cancer in the Current Era: Myth and Reality.

Bladder preservation after neoadjuvant therapy for muscle-invasive bladder cancer remains investigational. While randomized validation is awaited, growing prospective data, consensus standardization, and biomarker-driven strategies are transforming bladder-sparing strategies from an empirical alternative into a disciplined, evidence-maturing paradigm towards bladder-intact cure.

[A Case of Robotic-Assisted Surgery for Simultaneous Triple Cancer of Rectum, Bladder, and Prostate].

The patient was a 70s man, whose chief complaint of Hematochezia. He visited neighborhood hospital and was diagnosed with lower rectal cancer by colonoscopy. Preoperative CT showed a mass in the bladder, which led to a diagnosis of multiple early stage bladder cancer after a thorough urological examination. We diagnosed that very low anterior resection was necessary for rectal cancer and total bladder resection was necessary for bladder cancer. The patient underwent robotic- assisted total pelvic exenteration with anal preservation. One year and three months have passed since the surgery, and
