Introduction: Neonatal encephalopathy (NE) is associated with coagulation abnormalities. We aimed to investigate the serial alterations in coagulation profiles in term infants with NE and correlate with their clinical outcomes. This was a prospective cohort study in a tertiary referral, university-affiliated maternity hospital. Neonates exposed to perinatal asphyxia were recruited (n = 82) and 39 received therapeutic hypothermia. OBJECTIVE: To describe the dynamics of thickness and internal reflectivity after proton beam therapy (PBT) in uveal melanoma.
PARTICIPANTS: One hundred and ninety-eight consecutive patients with choroidal or ciliary body melanoma treated by PBT were retrospectively considered.

BACKGROUND: Accumulation of mucus into the lungs in bronchiectasis lowers the patients' quality of life. Hypertonic aerosols stimulate the removal of mucus.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: 37 bronchiectasis patients without cystic fibrosis inhaled 4 ml of a 6 per cent saline solution twice a day for three months. The authors used semistructured interviews to examine exile-related stressors affecting a sample of 28 adult Bosnian refugees in Chicago. The interviews covered 3 areas: life in prewar Bosnia, the journey of exile, and, most centrally, life in Chicago. Europe has entered a new era of health technology assessment. Clinical value is now appraised jointly across member states. Economic evaluation remains national. Cost-effectiveness, weighed in cost per quality-adjusted life year, is still decided country by country. Value is therefore appraised for what is used. It is not appraised for how well the care around it is delivered. Private health insurers face a parallel gap. The premiums they set rest largely on the characteristics of the insured and on claims history. They seldom reflect the quality of the care that members will actually receive.

We investigated the effect of age and sex on the serum activity of hexosaminidase (HEX) and -glucuronidase (BGLU) in 275 normal term infants aged 12 h to 12 months. Up to six weeks of life, HEX was significantly higher in boys (P<=0.023).
