BACKGROUND: Vestibular symptoms are common in migraine and contribute substantially to disability, even in the absence of a vestibular migraine diagnosis. Whether improvements in dizziness-related disability during preventive treatment are paralleled by measurable changes in vestibular function remains unclear.
METHODS: We conducted a prospective cohort study at a tertiary headache center including 59 patients with migraine and vestibular symptoms who initiated preventive therapy. Clinical outcomes (monthly headache days [MHDs], Headache Impact Test [HIT-6], Dizziness Handicap Inventory [DHI]

It is our opinion that a great deal of prospective work must be done in order to sort out all the variables encountered in subjects with Meniere's disease. This goal will best be accomplished by first establishing a better understanding of the pathophysiology of Meniere's disease. Given a clearer understanding of the mechanisms of idiopathic hydrops and the changes that occur as the disease progresses, sensitive specific vestibular test methods can be developed to quantitatively define specific abnormalities. Techniques recently developed show a great deal of promise for meaningful quantitativ

The relation between randomized caloric stimuli of 30 degrees - 5 degrees C to the parameters: duration, maximum frequency and maximum intensity was electronystagmographically examined on 25 persons. The duration and the maximum frequency showed only a slight correlation to the stimulus. There was a linear correlation to the maximum intensity and the stimulus between 30 degrees and 15 degrees C. But with temperatures below 15 degrees C the reaction did not increase. So the maximum intensity corresponds best to the characteristics of the temperature wave in the petrous bone and thus to the cupu

OBJECTIVE: Eye tracking technology has been employed in assessing ocular motor and vestibular function following vestibular and neurologic conditions, including traumatic brain injury (TBI). Assessments include tests that provide visual and motion (rotation) stimuli while recording horizontal, vertical, and torsional eye movements. While some of these tests have shown diagnostic promise in previous studies, their use in clinical practice is limited by the lack of normative data. The goal of this study was to construct normative reference ranges to be used when comparing patients' results.

BACKGROUND: Cortical damage in areas such as the frontal lobe is reported in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). However, aside from executive dysfunction, the pathological significance of this cortical damage has yet to be clarified. The present study investigated the effects of cortical damage on vestibular function in ALS.
METHODS: Subjects comprised 18 ALS patients and 18 age- and sex-matched healthy controls. Cold air caloric stimulation was performed in all subjects to induce vestibular nystagmus, which was analysed to evaluate vestibular function. Visual suppression testing to investi

OBJECTIVE: Intense air-conducted sound (ACS) elicits an ocular vestibular-evoked myogenic potential (oVEMP), and it has been suggested that it does so by stimulating saccular receptors and afferents in the inferior vestibular nerve and so activating a crossed sacculo-ocular pathway. Bone conducted vibration (BCV) also elicits an oVEMP probably by activating utricular receptors and a crossed utriculo-ocular pathway. Are there two separate pathways mediating oVEMPs for ACS and BCV? If saccular receptors and afferents are primarily responsible for the oVEMP to ACS, then the oVEMP to ACS should be
