Toward the end of the 1920s, technical advances in mining led to an increase in airborne burdens of dust in the South Wales coal mines. This coincided with a dramatic increase in the incidence of disability and death from respiratory disease among the miners. For their condition to be compensable, claimants were required to have worked with rock containing more than 50% 'free silica.' Dr W.R. Severe psychological symptoms after severe work-related hand injury, manifested as posttraumatic stress disorder, are not significantly potentiated or sustained by concomitant litigation if the patient has had early psychologic intervention. This study does not support assumptions about "accident neurosis" that delays recovery from the psychological sequelae of severe work-related hand injury.

The consequences of occupational accidents to the injured have been studied in a follow-up investigation of an emergency department material comprising almost 7 000 patients. The accident resulted in sick leave for 51% (on average 14.9 working days), in a reduced income for 31% (on average 2 125 Danish 1982 kroner), in a prolonged physical handicap for 6%, in hospitalization for 4.2% (on average 27 days), and in occupational consequences for 1.5%.

OBJECTIVES: This study sought to investigate the association between occupational injury and subsequent risk of suicide in Korea.
METHODS: We linked compensation data for 775 537 workers injured at work during 2003-2014 with National Death Registry through 2015. Suicide among injured workers was compared with the economically active population in Korea separately for men and women by calculating SMRs, with 95% CIs.

This paper reports on the findings of a participatory research study in which 290 injured workers in Ontario, Canada responded to a survey that was developed and administered by a group of university researchers in partnership with injured worker peer researchers. The objectives of the study were to gain a broad view of the needs and experiences of injured workers and to develop strategies for change.
