After hyperventilation, systolic blood pressure (SBP) significantly decreased in 10 subjects (group 1), did not change in eight (group 2) and increased in 15 (group 3). During a 5 month, double blind crossover study of the clinical effect of cyclobenzaprine on 7 patients with fibrositis, weekly measurements were done of plasma beta-endorphin (endorphin, prostaglandin E (PGE) and catecholamines). Endorphin levels were normal but varied with tender point tenderness. Mean plasma dopamine and PGE were elevated. Norepinephrine was normal to very high while epinephrine levels were continuously low to normal. BACKGROUND: A deleterious fetal stress response, although not fully elucidated, may account for poor outcomes after experimental fetal cardiac surgery. We set out to characterize this fetal stress response and its potential role in placental dysfunction.
