Enhanced surface antimicrobial, biocompatible and mechanical properties of 3D printed titanium alloys by electrophoretic deposition of chitosan/ZnO.

In this study, to address the susceptibility of 3D-printed titanium implants to bacterial infection, we propose to form a chitosan/ZnO composite coating by electrophoretic deposition to enhance its antimicrobial, biocompatible, and mechanical properties. The surface morphology of the composite coating is relatively flat, showing good hydrophilicity and coating adhesion, and the corrosion current density is significantly lower than that of the untreated titanium alloy. According to the results of the study, the composite coatings containing more than 0.1 g of ZnO (Z2, Z3, Z4 groups) showed exce

3D-printed swab with cover for precision diagnosis.

The collection capacity of common nasopharyngeal swabs and irregularities of medical personnel limit the accuracy of PCR testing. This study describes a newly designed 3D-printed swab that is combined with a 3D-printed cover to prevent the extraction of undesired nasal secretions. This swab improved the accuracy of PCR test results. The results of a series of experiments showed that, because of the mucus extraction effect, 3D-printed swabs can replace ordinary cotton swabs. The crisis of the worldwide medical supply shortage can be ameliorated to a certain extent by applying 3D printing techno

The effect of a combined glenoid and Hill-Sachs defect on glenohumeral stability: a biomechanical cadaveric study using 3-dimensional modeling of 142 patients.

BACKGROUND: Bone loss in anterior glenohumeral instability occurs on both the glenoid and the humerus; however, existing biomechanical studies have evaluated glenoid and humeral head defects in isolation. Thus, little is known about the combined effect of these bony lesions in a clinically relevant model on glenohumeral stability. HYPOTHESIS/PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to determine the biomechanical efficacy of a Bankart repair in the setting of bipolar (glenoid and humeral head) bone defects determined via computer-generated 3-dimensional (3D) modeling of 142 patients with recurre

Engineering visual realism in pureed foods for dysphagia care.

While texture modification ensures safe swallowing in dysphagia, homogeneous purees often compromise visual appeal. Treating shaping as the core design objective, this review evaluates established methods for engineering visual realism in pureed foods against available evidence, while explicitly identifying areas where evidence does not yet exist. Direct shaping methods are evaluated across IDDSI (International Dysphagia Diet Standardization Initiative) compliance, sensory acceptability, and practical implementation. Structural approaches that modify food structure rather than reshape purees a

Solid-Liquid Interdiffusion Bonding Enabling Heterogeneous Integration on Flexible and Shapeable Polymer Platforms.

The integration of rigid microscale electronics onto soft and flexible polymer substrates remains a key challenge for flexible electronics, biointegrated systems, and body-first microrobotics, where the mechanical body, material architecture, morphology, and primary functions are designed first, while the electronic processing unit (e.g., a Si CMOS chiplet), acting as the brain to control the robot´s functionalities, is integrated later. Existing approaches, including anisotropically conductive adhesives and transfer printing, rely on non-patternable or particle-based interconnects, thick bond

A Sea Anemone Tentacle-Inspired Capacitive 3D Force Flexible Tactile Sensor for Human-Machine Interaction and Encoding Communication Applications.

Sea anemones detect external stimuli through the deformation of their soft tentacles, which exhibit multi-directional force sensitivity. Inspired by this mechanism, we designed a capacitive three-dimensional force flexible tactile sensor composed of a hollow hemisphere and a hollow cylinder. The device was fabricated using 3D printing combined with a Layer-By-Layer assembly process. For normal forces, the sensor achieved sensitivities of approximately 0.66 N-1 in the 0-1 N range and 0.15 N-1 in the 2-10 N range. For tangential forces, the four symmetrically distributed electrodes exhibited opp

Oral Gastro-resistant Formulations - State of the Art, Advances and Prospects: A Review.

Gastro-resistant oral dosage forms remain essential for protecting acid-labile active pharmaceutical ingredients, reducing gastric irritation, and enabling site-specific intestinal or colonic drug delivery. Although conventional enteric coatings are well established, their in vivo performance remains affected by gastric pH variability, food intake, alcohol exposure, gastric residence time, coating integrity, and interindividual differences in gastrointestinal transit. Advanced platforms, including ready-to-fill enteric capsules, hot-melt technologies, three-dimensional printing, electrospinnin

3D-Printed Collagen/Silk Fibroin/Matrigel Scaffold Combined with iPSC-Derived Cells for Tissue Regeneration of Salivary Glands.

Salivary gland defects from tumors or trauma are often accompanied by irreversible secretory dysfunction and remain a clinical challenge. Alternative cell sources and suitable scaffolds for salivary gland regeneration remain lacking. A functionalized scaffold system is fabricated by three-dimensional printing combined with freeze-drying to prepare a collagen-silk fibroin-Matrigel scaffold. The scaffold exhibits high porosity and strong water absorption capacity. Its internal surface is coated with a basement membrane extract-rich layer that enhances hydrophilicity and creates a physiologically

Xenograft of bio-3D printed scaffold-free cartilage constructs derived from human iPSCs to regenerate articular cartilage in immunodeficient pigs.

Arthroplasty is currently the only option for reconstruction of large articular cartilage defects, mainly due to osteoarthritis. However, reconstruction with artificial materials has several issues such as deterioration, foreign body reaction, and bacterial infection. This study established a new method for articular cartilage reconstruction that fundamentally solves the problems associated with artificial materials by creating scaffold-free cartilage constructs and implanting them into extensive osteochondral defects without artificial materials. Tubular cartilage constructs were fabricated u
