A high-temperature furnace for multimodal synchrotron-based X-ray microscopy and diffraction imaging.

The design, calibration and initial application of a non-contact high-temperature furnace developed for in situ synchrotron X-ray experiments are presented. The system enables a stable operation up to 1000°C, with heating rates exceeding 6000°C min-1 and thermal stability better than ±2°C. Temperature calibration was performed using (i) direct measurements with a thermocouple to characterize heating and cooling ramp rates and map temperature gradients along the x, y and z axes; and (ii) synchrotron X-ray diffraction to track the ferrite-to-austenite (body-centered cubic to face-centered cubic)

Protective efficacy and user acceptability of DEET and Vetiver essential oil repellents against Anopheles dirus (Diptera: Culicidae): semi-field and community-based evaluations.

Topical repellents are considered as valuable supplementary tools for reducing vector-borne disease transmission risk by preventing mosquito bites. Plant-based formulations have attracted growing interest as safer, more acceptable alternatives to synthetic repellents, yet evidence for their real-world effectiveness remains limited. This study evaluated the protective efficacy of two topical repellents, DEET and Vetiver essential oil (Vetiver E.O.) against Anopheles dirus Peyton & Harrison, a main malaria vector species, through semi-field system (SFS) trials. These tests were followed by a nin

Guidelines for clean intermittent catheterization in children.

BACKGROUND: Clean intermittent catheterization (CIC) is an effective method of bladder emptying in children with neurogenic and non-neurogenic disorders that cause difficulty in urination. However, there is a lack of expert consensus on the standardized application of CIC in pediatric populations. This guideline intends to outline recommendations for standardizing CIC in children. METHODS: A comprehensive literature review was performed by searching key academic databases, specifically PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, and Web of Science. Eligible literature-including peer-reviewed clinic

Beyond "low tone". What do the General Movements Assessment and Motor Optimality Score tell us about infants with developmental central hypotonia? A scoping review.

Developmental central hypotonia is a broad clinical term describing low muscle tone secondary to non-degenerative brain impairment. Because there is no widely implemented, standardized way to quantify hypotonia in young children, and low tone is still judged largely through subjective clinical examination, early motor phenotyping remains challenging. We conducted a scoping review to map how Prechtl's General Movements Assessment (GMA) and the Motor Optimality Score-Revised (MOS-R) have been used in infants with developmental central hypotonia aged <5 months corrected age. The impact of family-related psychosocial factors on suicidal ideation among adolescents: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: This systematic literature review investigates the impact of family-related psychosocial factors on suicidal ideation. Adolescents experiencing family-related adversities are more likely to experience suicidal ideation. Given that adolescents are a high-risk population, understanding the nature of the impact of family-related factors is important. It would help determine and differentiate the family-specific risk and protective factors and aid in designing targeted suicide prevention strategies. METHOD: The review followed Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-

Systematic Review of Pharmacist-Administered Paediatric Vaccinations in Low- and Lower-Middle-Income Countries.

BACKGROUND: An estimated 25 million children globally miss routine vaccinations each year, with 14.3 million classified as zero-dose and the majority residing in low- and lower-middle-income countries (LMICs). Pharmacies are recognised as accessible healthcare delivery points, yet their role in paediatric immunisation in LMICs is not well defined. This literature review sought to evaluate pharmacist-provided vaccination services for paediatric patients in LMICs. METHODS: A systematic review was conducted following Cochrane and PRISMA guidelines. Five databases and grey literature were searche

PURPOSE: Ureteral complications are among the most common types of complications following kidney transplantation (KT). In the past, these complications were often managed using endoscopic and open surgical approaches. However, the robot-assisted approach has been recently implemented. Nevertheless, the available data regarding the potential impact of robotic surgery in this field are sparse. This systematic review (SR) aims to summarize the available evidence of robot-assisted ureteral reconstruction following KT, focusing on postoperative outcomes and complications. METHODS: Studies eligibl

Perceived Healthcare Interventions and Clinical Strategies Against Dating Violence: A Qualitative Exploration of Expert and Nursing Perspectives.

Introduction: Dating violence is an early form of intimate partner violence characterized by controlling behaviors, psychological and sexual abuse, and digital coercion. Despite its high prevalence among adolescents and young adults, it remains underrecognized and insufficiently addressed in healthcare settings. Nurses are strategically positioned to identify and respond to dating violence due to their close contact with patients and holistic approach to care. However, important gaps remain between existing protocols and their implementation in clinical practice. Methods: An exploratory qualit

(Sero)prevalence of (re)emerging major arbovirus infections in Africa: a systematic review and meta-analysis protocol.

BACKGROUND: Arbovirus infection outbreaks are becoming more widely reported in Africa. However, it is still difficult and crucial to better understand arbovirus transmission patterns, disease trends, and burdens. The epidemiology of these infections-dengue virus (DENV), Zika virus (ZIKV), chikungunya virus (CHIKV), West Nile virus (WNV), Rift Valley fever virus (RVFV), and yellow fever virus (YFV)-is unfortunately not well understood. This review provides an epidemiological inventory of DENV, ZIKV, CHIKV, WNV, RVFV, and YFV infections in Africa, with helpful results for risk mapping and upcomi

Early Versus Late(r) Administration of Intrapleural Fibrinolytic Therapy in Children with Empyema: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

CONTEXT: Although intrapleural fibrinolytic therapy (IPFT) is frequently used in empyema thoracis, there is lack of clarity regarding the ideal timing of its administration. OBJECTIVE: To synthesize evidence comparing early IPFT (i.e. at presentation, or as early as feasible, but within 24 h of confirmation of empyema), versus late(r) instillation (i.e. after 24 h of confirmation of empyema) in children with empyema, for the purpose of framing an evidence-based guideline recommendation. EVIDENCE ACQUISITION: We searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing early versus late(r) I

Bridging the representation gap in the surgical workforce: a scoping review protocol of programmes and interventions to support surgical careers for underrepresented minority learners.

INTRODUCTION: Despite increasing proportions of underrepresented minority (URM) medical school graduates, their progression into surgical training and leadership remains disproportionately low. Barriers such as financial constraints, limited mentorship and implicit bias contribute to this disparity, creating a disconnect between the diversity of patient populations and those providing care. While interventions such as mentorship programmes and pipeline initiatives have been implemented, their overall effectiveness has not been systematically evaluated. The primary aim of this scoping review is

Stepwise model to differentiate pathogenic from non-pathogenic organisms in urinary isolates: Effectiveness, safety, and feasibility prospective study.

BACKGROUND: Clinical decision-making in urinary tract infections depends heavily on accurately distinguishing between pathogenic and non-pathogenic organisms. The interpretation of urine culture results is influenced by proper sample collection, the patient's clinical context, and organism-specific characteristics. However, there is currently no definitive method to determine whether a urinary isolate is truly pathogenic. This distinction is critical, as treatment decisions hinge on it. This pioneering study systematically applies a stepwise model to differentiate pathogenic from non-pathogeni
