Prevalence of ESBL-producing Escherichia coli in sub-Saharan Africa: A meta-analysis using a One Health approach.

The rise in the prevalence of antimicrobial-resistant (AMR) pathogens globally has been a major concern, especially due to the increasing mortality associated with AMR. One of these pathogens -classified as a WHO priority pathogen- is extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Escherichia coli. In this study, we aim to determine the prevalence of ESBL-producing E. coli in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) as well as the genes responsible for its spread in the region. Based on the PRISMA guideline, we screened 6521 articles published between 2013 and 2023 from PubMed, AJOL, Google Scholar, Scopus

Healthcare accessibility in Yemen's conflict zones: comprehensive review focused on strategies and solutions.

The nine-year ongoing conflict in Yemen accumulated humanitarian crisis, and severely struggling healthcare system. In the current review, we are trying here to elucidate the many perspective areas where the conflict in Yemen has made it harder to access medical care, emphasizing how the war has negatively affected medical infrastructure, caused a severe shortage of medical supplies, and obstructed access to or the ability to receive medical services. We conducted a comprehensive search across reports from in-ground working organizations like UN, MSF, ICRC, and official authorial channels, inc

Artificial intelligence and machine learning in the development of vaccines and immunotherapeutics-yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

The development of vaccines and immunotherapies against infectious diseases and cancers has been one of the significant achievements of medical science in the last century. Subunit vaccines offer key advantages over whole-inactivated or attenuated-pathogen-based vaccines, as they elicit more specific B-and T-cell responses with improved safety, immunogenicity, and protective efficacy. However, developing subunit vaccines is often cost-and time-consuming. In the past, the development of vaccines and immunotherapeutics relied heavily on trial-and-error experimentation, as well as extensive and c
