Whilst posterior shoulder dislocation is rare, it remains a frequently missed diagnosis. In all patients with a history of seizure, electrocution or similar trauma, where external rotation of the shoulder is limited, we recommend that an axillary or modified axillary view be added to the standard two radiographic shoulder views as routine protocol, to avoid missing a posterior dislocation.

One hundred and four patients who had a minimally displaced fracture of the proximal part of the humerus (a so-called one-part fracture) were managed with a standardized therapy regimen and followed for more than one year. The clinical outcome was assessed on the basis of pain, function, and the range of motion of the shoulder. The duration of follow-up averaged forty-one months (range, twelve to 117 months). All fractures united without additional displacement. Eighty patients (77 per cent) had a good or excellent result, fourteen (13 per cent) had a fair result, and ten (10 per cent) had a p

The medial rotation deformity of the distal humerus usually exists in the cubitus varus deformity but has received little attention. Study of this deformity in 29 cases of cubitus varus was carried out using the osteotomized bony specimens that were removed during closed wedge osteotomy in order to determine the actual bone deformity. The average duration of the varus deformity was 5.6 yrs (range 1 to 11). The medial rotation deformity of the distal humerus averaged 27 degrees (range 15 to 45). There was no correlation between the degree of rotation and that of the varus deformity (correlation

Supracondylar fractures of the humerus in children were studied in Kuopio University Central Hospital during 1974-1984. The total number of the fractures was 86. Fifty-two patients were examined 13 months to 11 years after the accident. Only severe cases (grade 3 and 4 after Holmberg's classification) were included. Twenty patients were treated operatively, 17 with traction and 15 conventionally with reposition and plaster cast. The age of the patients at the time of the accident was from 21 months to 12 years and at follow-up from five to 23 years. The purpose of this study was to evaluate la

INTRODUCTION: Shoulder dislocation is very common. However, neglected or chronic shoulder dislocations are extremely rare. The position of the humeral head determines the classification of shoulder dislocation. Anterior shoulder dislocation accounts for most cases, while inferior dislocation is rare. Negligence from the patient and misdiagnosis are the leading causes of chronic shoulder dislocation. Treatment of the condition poses a significant challenge for surgeons since there is no widely accepted treatment protocol.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 56-year-old woman presented with a neglected anteri

The aim of this study was to have updated scrutiny of the influence of the humeral neck-shaft angle (HNSA) in patients who underwent reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA). A PRISMA-guided literature search was conducted from May to September 2021. Clinical outcome scores, functional parameters, and any complications were reviewed. Eleven papers were identified for inclusion in this systematic review. A total of 971 shoulders were evaluated at a minimum-follow up of 12 months, and a maximum of 120 months. The sample size for the "HNSA 155°" group is 449 patients, the "HNSA 145°" group involves 14

OBJECTIVE: To highlight the dangers inherent in the practice of traditional bone setting in south western Nigeria as evidenced by the preventable complications that accompany treatment of fractures, joint dislocations and limb deformities by traditional bonesetters (TBS).
METHOD: Twenty-five consecutive patients with fractures, dislocations and limb deformities who had been previously managed by TBS and who subsequently presented to the University College Hospital, Ibadan (on account of complications from treatment at the TBS) between 15 October 1999 and 31st March 2000 were evaluated.

BACKGROUND: Cubitus varus deformity after a supracondylar fracture classically includes varus, extension, and internal rotation components. However, to our knowledge, no reliable surgical method for three-dimensional corrective osteotomy has been established. We developed an intraoperative guide system involving a custom-made surgical template designed on the basis of a three-dimensional computer simulation incorporating computed tomography (CT) data. We aimed to investigate the feasibility of this novel technique for correcting cubitus varus deformity.
METHODS: Thirty consecutive patients (t

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings of a rare complication of posterior glenohumeral dislocation are described in two patients which led to shoulder dysfunction caused by interposition of rotator cuff tendon(s) into the glenohumeral joint. Both patients underwent successful surgical fixation and now have returned to normal shoulder function.

Out of 210 children suffering from severely displaced supracondylar fractures, 76 (36%) presented with immediate neurovascular complications: 47 (22%) were neurological, 16 (8%) vascular and 13 (6%) both. Injury to two nerves simultaneously was observed in six patients. The median nerve was affected in 28 cases, the ulnar nerve in 25 and the radial nerve in 13. Posterolateral displacement was associated with 86% of damage to the median nerve and 56% of damage to the ulnar nerve. Posteromedial displacement was associated with all incidents of injury to the radial nerve with one exception. Each

Thirteen (3.2%) of 410 patients seen in British Columbia's Children's Hospital in Vancouver from January 1984 to September 1992 with supracondylar fractures did so with an absence of a radial pulse in an otherwise well perfused hand. A combination of segmental pressure monitoring, color-flow duplex scanning, and magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) appears to be a valid, noninvasive, and safe technique in evaluating patency of the brachial artery and collateral circulation across the elbow. Based on this study, early revascularization of a pulseless otherwise well-perfused hand in children wit

PURPOSE: Greater tuberosity (GT) fragment healing has been associated with improved outcomes following reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA) for proximal humerus fractures, yet the relationship between pre-operative GT fragment volume and clinical outcomes remains largely unexplored. We hypothesised that larger GT volumes would be associated with improved outcomes and larger anatomical dimensions.
METHODS: We retrospectively studied 153 patients who underwent RTSA for proximal humerus fracture. GT fragment volume was measured on pre-operative computed tomography (CT). Clinical outcomes i
