Assessing the feasibility and acceptability of a diabetes-specific nurse-led multicomponent smoking cessation intervention in diabetes education: study protocol for an open-label pragmatic randomised controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: Smoking cessation is an essential, but often overlooked aspect of diabetes management. Despite the need for tailored smoking cessation support for individuals with diabetes, evidence of effective interventions for this cohort is limited. Additionally, individuals with diabetes do not easily adopt such interventions, resulting in low uptake and abstinence rates. This protocol describes a study that aims to assess the feasibility and acceptability of a unique smoking cessation intervention, based on the best evidence, theory and the needs of individuals with diabetes, among patient

Cost analysis for initiating an integrated package of essential non-communicable disease interventions (PEN-Plus) in Kondoa District Hospital, Tanzania: a time-driven activity-based costing (TDABC) study protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) constitute approximately 74% of global mortality, with 77% of these deaths occurring in low-income and middle-income countries. Tanzania exemplifies this situation, as the percentage of total disability-adjusted life years attributed to NCDs has doubled over the past 30 years, from 18% to 36%. To mitigate the escalating burden of severe NCDs, the Tanzanian government, in collaboration with local and international partners, seeks to extend the integrated package of essential interventions for severe NCDs (PEN-Plus) to district-level facilities, the

Nationwide Survey Reveals High Prevalence of Non-Swimmers among Children with Congenital Heart Defects.

BACKGROUND: Physical activity is important for children with congenital heart defects (CHD), not only for somatic health, but also for neurologic, emotional, and psychosocial development. Swimming is a popular endurance sport which is in general suitable for most children with CHD. Since we have previously shown that children with CHD are less frequently physically active than their healthy peers, we hypothesized that the prevalence of non-swimmers is higher in CHD patients than in healthy children. METHODS: To obtain representative data, we performed a nationwide survey in collaboration with

Intellectual disabilities teaching for medical students: a scoping review.

BACKGROUND: People with intellectual disabilities are a marginalized group whose health experiences and outcomes are poor. Lack of skill and knowledge in the healthcare workforce is a contributing factor. In England, there is a new legislative requirement for mandatory intellectual disability training to be given to the existing healthcare workforce, including doctors. There is a lack of evidence about effective models of educational delivery of such training in medical schools. We undertook a scoping review to assess the range of intellectual disabilities educational interventions and their e
