Group A streptococcus (GAS) is a major bacterial pathogen affecting children globally. Approximately 15% of school-age children experience a symptomatic episode of GAS culture-positive pharyngitis each year. Although the incidence of invasive GAS disease under these circumstances is low (0.5%-2%), an increasing number of invasive GAS cases have been reported over the last 2 decades. This report describes a 7-year-old boy who, after being treated for GAS pharyngitis, developed a fatal streptococcal toxic shock syndrome.

We report two adult cases of sudden cardiorespiratory arrest because an acute epiglottitis that ocurred in our hospital. Although it is an uncommon pathology nowdays with good prognosis generally, we try to call the attention about this complication which can happen of unforseeable way even in previous absence of respiratory obstruction. One of the patients required coniotomy in ICU due to impossibility of orotracheal intubation (OI) and the other died in spite of an urgent performance.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to determine the duration of the time that is needed to eradicate group B Streptococcus (GBS) in pregnant women with preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM).
STUDY DESIGN: A retrospective cohort study was performed of pregnant women with PPROM from January 1, 2000, through December 31, 2005. Vaginal/rectal cultures were performed on admission and repeated daily. Patients received antibiotics until cultures were negative for 3 consecutive days.
