Recommended childhood immunization schedule--United States, 1995. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The need for a single childhood immunization schedule prompted the unification of previous vaccine recommendations made by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP). In addition to presenting the newly recommended schedule for the administration of vaccines during childhood, this report addresses the previous differences between the AAP and ACIP childhood vaccination schedules and the rationale for changing previous recommendations.

Early childhood vaccination in two rural counties--Nebraska, 1991-1992.

The national vaccination objectives for the year 2000 include increasing coverage for the recommended primary vaccination series* among children aged less than 2 years to at least 90% and to vaccinate at least 95% of school-aged children (1). Although baseline data for these two goals have been obtained in numerous urban settings (2), similar baseline data from rural populations are limited. To determine the vaccination status of children in rural Nebraska, where 51% (812,000) of Nebraska's residents live, the Nebraska Department of Health, in collaboration with Hastings College, conducted a r

Adult immunizations.

Effective and successful vaccination programs during childhood have resulted in a growing number of unimmunized persons reaching adulthood without being exposed to common infectious diseases. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that physicians establish an ongoing immunization program for adults. Before administering a vaccine, physicians must consider a patient's risk of contracting the disease and the safety and efficacy of the vaccine.

Post-vaccination campaign coverage evaluation of oral cholera vaccine, oral polio vaccine and measles-rubella vaccine among Forcibly Displaced Myanmar Nationals in Bangladesh.

Background: The new influx of Forcibly Displaced Myanmar Nationals (FDMNs) into Bangladesh started in August 2017 through different entry points of Bangladesh. Considering the imminent threat of infectious diseases outbreaks, the Government of Bangladesh (GoB) decided to vaccinate children against three deadly diseases (measles, rubella and poliomyelitis) and oral cholera vaccine (OCV) for all except <1 year children. After completion of the campaigns, post-vaccination campaign evaluation was carried out to assess the coverage of OCV, OPV and MR vaccines during campaigns. Methods: Post-vaccinat

Immunogenicity and safety of MenACWY-TT, a meningococcal conjugate vaccine, co-administered with routine childhood vaccine in healthy infants: A phase III, randomized study.

BACKGROUND: Invasive meningococcal disease has a high burden in young children, particularly during infancy. We investigated the immunogenicity and safety of a quadrivalent meningococcal conjugated vaccine (MenACWY-TT) co-administered with routine vaccines in healthy infants. METHODS: In this phase IIIb study (NCT01340898) conducted in 2 centers in Lebanon and Mexico, 750 infants were randomized (2:1:1) to receive MenACWY-TT according to 3 schedules: 3+1 (at ages 2, 4, 6 and 15-18 months; group ACWY3+1); 1+1 (at 6 and 15-18 months; group ACWY1+1) or single-dose at 15-18 months (group ACWY1).

The Immunogenicity and Safety of a Combined DTaP-IPV//Hib Vaccine Compared with Individual DTaP-IPV and Hib (PRP~T) Vaccines: a Randomized Clinical Trial in South Korean Infants.

Recommended infant vaccination in Korea includes DTaP-IPV and Hib vaccines administered as separate injections. In this randomized, open, controlled study we assessed the non-inferiority of immunogenicity of DTaP-IPV//Hib pentavalent combination vaccine (Pentaxim™) compared with licensed DTaP-IPV and Hib (PRP~T) vaccines. We enrolled 418 healthy Korean infants to receive either separate DTaP-IPV and Hib vaccines (n = 206) or the pentavalent DTaP-IPV//Hib (n = 208) vaccine at 2, 4, 6 months of age. Antibodies to all components were measured before the first vaccination and one month after the t

Disinfecting personal protective equipment with pulsed xenon ultraviolet as a risk mitigation strategy for health care workers.

The doffing of personal protective equipment (PPE) after contamination with pathogens such as Ebola poses a risk to health care workers. Pulsed xenon ultraviolet (PX-UV) disinfection has been used to disinfect surfaces in hospital settings. This study examined the impact of PX-UV disinfection on an Ebola surrogate virus on glass carriers and PPE material to examine the potential benefits of using PX-UV to decontaminate PPE while worn, thereby reducing the pathogen load prior to doffing. Ultraviolet (UV) safety and coverage tests were also conducted. PX-UV exposure resulted in a significant red

[Increase in localised symptoms in 4-year-olds following revaccination with DaPT-IPV].

OBJECTIVE: To present an inventory of notifications of serious local reactions after revaccination of 4-year-old children with DaPT-IPV (diphtheria vaccine, acellular pertussis vaccine, tetanus vaccine and poliomyelitis vaccine), who had been vaccinated as a toddler with whole-cell pertussis combination vaccine (DwPT-IPV-Hib) and/or (from 2005 onward) with the acellular pertussis combination vaccine (DaPT-IPV-Hib). DESIGN: Descriptive inventory METHOD: Via an enhanced passive surveillance system professionals and private individuals can report an adverse event following vaccination within th

Primary vaccination of infants against hepatitis B can be completed using a combined hexavalent diphtheria-tetanus-acellular pertussis-hepatitis B-inactivated poliomyelitis-Haemophilus influenzae type B vaccine.

INTRODUCTION: Children in Singapore receive vaccination against hepatitis B virus (HBV) at 0, 1 and 5 or 6 months of age, and vaccination against pertussis, diphtheria, tetanus, and polio at 3, 4 and 5 months of age. Parents often choose to vaccinate with the combined acellular-pertussis-inactivated polio-Hib vaccine (DTPa-IPV/Hib). We investigated whether a combined hexavalent vaccine, DTPa-HBV-IPV/Hib, could replace the separate administration of DTPa-IPV/Hib and HBV for the final vaccination at 5 months of age (Trial DTPa-HBV-IPV-075). MATERIALS AND METHODS: In an open study, 150 children

Use of fluorescence resonance energy transfer for rapid detection of enteroviral infection in vivo.

Enteroviruses can be easily transmitted through the fecal-oral route and cause a diverse array of clinical manifestations. Recent outbreaks associated with enteroviral contamination in aquatic environments have called for the development of a more efficient and accurate virus monitoring system. To develop a simple, rapid, and direct method for identifying enteroviral infections, we generated a fluorescent reporter system in which genetically engineered cells express a hybrid fluorescent indicator composed of a linker peptide, which is exclusively cleaved by the 2A protease (2A(pro)), flanked w
