Twenty-five patients with cerebral cysticercosis admitted to the Bangkok Hospital for Tropical Diseases from March 1987 to November 1989 were studied. The patients had a mean age of 41 +/- 5 years with a mean body weight of 57 +/- 4 kgs. Male to female ratio was 1.5:1. Eight patients (32%) gave a history of having taeniasis with a mean duration of 3.6 years before having symptoms of cerebral cysticercosis. We have reviewed our experience with gangliogliomas treated in the post-computed tomography (CT) era at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Of 234 newly histologically verified neoplasms seen at our institution since 1975, 10 (4.3%) were gangliogliomas of the cerebral hemispheres. The presenting complaint was seizures in 9 of 10 patients, and in 8 the seizures were poorly controlled despite increasing doses of anticonvulsant medication. OBJECTIVE: We assessed the outcomes of various reconstructive methods for skull base defect after endoscopic endonasal approaches (EEA) depending on the degree of intraoperative cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks.
METHODS: Between Jan. 2008 and Sep. 2009, 122 consecutive patients underwent 124 EEA for sellar and extra-sellar lesions. Intraoperative CSF leaks were classified as grade 0, no intraoperative CSF leak; grade 1, low output; and grade 2, high-output based on the degree of CSF leakage and size of opening in the arachnoid membrane (<5 or ≥5 mm).

Thyroid nodule genesis may be considered as an amplification of thyroid heterogeneity due to genetic and/or epigenetic mechanisms. We classified the thyroid nodules in five types with distinct histological features: hyperplastic, neoplastic, colloid, cystic and thyroiditic nodules. Hyperplastic: Thyrocyte proliferation is under the control of TSH but several other paracrine and autocrine factors are secreted by follicular cells, the stromal apparatus and the lymphocytes, which are implicated in initiation and perpetuation of thyroid hyperplasia. Growth occurs mainly through TSHR, cAMP and PKA.

Eighteen patients hospitalized for excessive ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome are reported. In 14 cases the ovarian hyperstimulation was induced by human menopausal -onadotropins and in 4 cases by combined treatment with clomiphene and HCG.
