Voxel-based morphometry of disproportionate cerebrospinal fluid space distribution for the differential diagnosis of idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus.

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether voxel-based morphometry of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) space can accurately differentiate iNPH from other related neurological disorders. METHODS: Nineteen patients with surgically proven iNPH and 24 patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD), 18 patients with Parkinson's disease (PD), and 14 healthy elderlies were examined. Regions of interest (ROIs) in the ventricular/sylvian (VS) and high convexity/midline (HCM) areas were used in VBM, and differences in CSF volume within these ROIs among the 4 groups were examined. RESULTS: The relative CSF volume in the VS-

Assessment of ventricular mechanical dyssynchrony by short-axis MRI.

Nowadays, patients with symptomatic heart failure and intraventricular conduction delay can be treated with a cardiac resynchronization therapy. Electrical dyssynchrony is typically adopted to represent myocardial dyssynchrony, to be compensated by cardiac resynchronization therapy. One third of the patients, however, does not respond to the therapy. Therefore, imaging modalities aimed at the mechanical dyssynchrony estimation have been recently proposed to improve patient selection criteria. This paper presents a novel fully-automated method for regional mechanical left-ventricular dyssynchro

Validation of nonrigid image registration using finite-element methods: application to breast MR images.

This paper presents a novel method for validation of nonrigid medical image registration. This method is based on the simulation of physically plausible, biomechanical tissue deformations using finite-element methods. Applying a range of displacements to finite-element models of different patient anatomies generates model solutions which simulate gold standard deformations. From these solutions, deformed images are generated with a range of deformations typical of those likely to occur in vivo. The registration accuracy with respect to the finite-element simulations is quantified by co-registe

Digital Biopsy and Network Analysis of Dynamic [68Ga]Ga-FAPI-46 Data in Patients with Malignant and Benign Pancreatic Lesions.

The pathologies pancreatic ductal adenocarcinomas, inflammatory lesions of the pancreas, postpancreatectomy reactive tissue, and recurrent pancreatic ductal adenocarcinomas all express fibroblast activation protein and are hardly distinguishable by static PET using [68Ga]Ga-labeled fibroblast activation protein inhibitors (FAPIs) combined with CT. Dynamic imaging allows full [68Ga]-Ga-FAPI kinetic profile analysis, highlighting differences among these pathologies. Here, we applied a voxel-level digital biopsy approach combined with network analysis and clustering to characterize healthy, nonma

Percutaneous cementoplasty for the treatment of extraspinal painful bone lesion, a prospective study.

PURPOSE: The current gold standard treatment of localized painful bone lesion is radiotherapy but this technique has limitations. Our study aims to demonstrate that cementoplasty is an efficient alternative for these palliatives indications when lesions involve extraspinal bones. We prospectively followed 20 patients who received a percutaneous cementoplasty on painful lytic bone lesions between May 2008 and May 2010. MATERIALS: Seventeen patients also had difficulty walking in relation to the pain experienced. The clinical indication for treatment was severe pain (≥4 on the numeric scale) du

Ventricular dilation and electrical dyssynchrony synergistically increase regional mechanical nonuniformity but not mechanical dyssynchrony: a computational model.

BACKGROUND: Heart failure (HF) in combination with mechanical dyssynchrony is associated with a high mortality rate. To quantify contractile dysfunction in patients with HF, investigators have proposed several indices of mechanical dyssynchrony, including percentile range of time to peak shortening (WTpeak), circumferential uniformity ratio estimate (CURE), and internal stretch fraction (ISF). The goal of this study was to compare the sensitivity of these indices to 4 major abnormalities responsible for cardiac dysfunction in dyssynchronous HF: dilation, negative inotropy, negative lusitropy,

Use of New Imaging CARTO® Segmentation Module Software to Facilitate Ablation of Ventricular Arrhythmias.

INTRODUCTION: A new imaging software (CARTO® Segmentation Module, Biosense Webster) allows preprocedural 3-D reconstruction of all heart chambers based on cardiac CT. We describe our initial experience with the new module during ablation of ventricular arrhythmias. METHODS AND RESULTS: Eighteen consecutive patients with idiopathic ventricular arrhythmias or ischemic ventricular tachycardia (VT) were studied. In the latter group, a combined endocardial and epicardial ablation was performed. Of the 14 patients with idiopathic arrhythmias, 12 were ablated in the outflow tract (OT), 1 in the mids

Medical imaging and radiographic analysis of the rheumatoid patient.

According to the Arthritis Foundation, approximately 1.3 million Americans have rheumatoid arthritis (RA), while an estimated 300,000 children are diagnosed with the disease each year. The disease is 2- to 4-times more common in women than in men and is least common in young men. Current practices in the treatment of RA center on the early detection of the various disease manifestations, specifically joint destruction. The goal of early detection is the implementation of disease-modifying drugs before articular destruction and deformity set in. Advancements in medical imaging have led to metho

Low Dose Contrast Enhanced CT Thorax Protocol: Comparison of Low Kilovoltage, Low Contrast Volume Using Iterative Reconstruction Technique with Standard Protocol.

BACKGROUND: Computed enhanced computed tomography (CECT) of the thorax is an effective imaging technique for diagnosing lung diseases. However, the increased use of CECT thorax scans has raised concerns regarding cancer risk and contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN). The iterative reconstruction (IR) method, specifically iDose4, enhances image quality (IQ) and reduces artifacts at low doses (LD). This study aimed to evaluate the image quality (IQ) and radiation dose (RD) of low-dose, low-volume (LD-LV) CECT thorax with iDose4, compared to standard dose (SD) CECT thorax (iDose4). METHODS: Group A
