Iron-containing antigens present in membrane vesicles prepared from Escherichia coli ML 308-225 were analyzed by crossed immunoelectrophoresis following growth of the organism in the presence of 59Fe. Seven discrete antigens (or antigen complexes) are detected by autoradiography, and six contain primarily nonheme iron. Metabolism and autoradiographic distribution of the two isomeric tetrahydrocannabinols, (2,4-14-C)-delta-8-THC and (2,4-14-C)-delta-9-THC, were studied in the marmoset Callithrix jacchus. Of the two cannabinoids, delta-8-THC had a slower initial rate of biotransformation to the psychopharmacologically more potent 11-hydroxylated metabolite. Binding studies on retinal dopamine receptors have revealed the existence of both D1 and D2 receptors. Human retina micro-autoradiographs confirm the distribution of dopaminergic receptors in the plexiform layers. Piribedil, a dopaminergic agonist, is able to bind to D2 receptors, while its metabolite (S584) preferentially displaces D1-specific radioligands. A method is described for detecting by fluorography tritium-labelled proteins in immunoelectropherograms performed on agarose gels. The technique is based on the impregnation of immunoplates with sodium salicylate immediately after electrophoresis without the formation of a mixed agarose--polyacrylamide gel prior to processing the immunoelectropherograms for fluorography. Sodium salicylate, an inexpensive and water-soluble compound, has been found to serve as a satisfactory fluor for enhanced detection of radioactivity in agarose gels.

The appearance of the epidermis and epidermal autoradiographic labelling indices were compared in actinic keratoses and paralesional skin in seventeen patients after injection of tritiated thymidine. The skin on the buttock area was also studied as a "non-sun exposed" control. Labelling indices obtained from skin removed after 1 hwere as follows: actinic keratoses 17-4%; paralesional skin 11-2%; buttock skin 5-4%. This investigation was prompted by our ignorance of the way in which salicyclic acid aids desquamation. Salicyclic acid in aqueous cream or white soft paraffin and in concentrations of 2-12% was applied to normal skin of twenty-three subjects while the vehicle alone was applied to the contralateral sites. Monkey lenses were incubated with 35S-L-cysteine for various times and the movement of label within the lens followed by autoradiography. Cysteine appeared to enter primarily at the germinative region of the lens. No evidence was found for major transport through either the anterior or posterior faces of the lens. Although laser treatment of the trabecular meshwork is the most common form of surgery for glaucoma, the tissue response to this therapy is still incompletely understood. We applied argon or Nd:YAG laser to the trabecular meshwork of six monkeys. Cell division was identified by injecting tritiated thymidine into the anterior chamber 24 hr after laser application.
