BACKGROUND: While many endocrine-disrupting compounds (EDCs) may form more toxic intermediates during degradation, current research predominantly focuses on parent compound residues and degradation efficiency, with limited attention to monitoring degradation process. This insufficient understanding of the degradation pathway hampers accurate ecological risk evaluation. In this work, a novel solid-phase microextraction (SPME) fiber coated with a porphyrin-based porous organic polymer (POR-Tp) was fabricated for simultaneous trace detection of bisphenol AF (BPAF) and monitoring of its degradation

The optimization of a clean procedure based on ultrasound-assisted emulsification liquid-liquid microextraction for the sensitive determination of four bisphenols is presented. The miniaturized technique was coupled with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry after derivatization by in situ acetylation. The Taguchi experimental method, an orthogonal array design, was applied to find the optimal combination of seven factors (each factor at three levels) influencing the emulsification, extraction and collection efficiency, namely acetic anhydride volume, sodium phosphate concentration, carbon tetr

Larval zebrafish (Danio rerio) are a tool for assessing endocrine disruption during early development. Here, we investigated the extent to which a simple light/dark behavioral test at five days post fertilization could compliment current methods within the field. We exposed fertilized embryos to hormones (17β-estradiol, testosterone, dihydrotestosterone, 11-ketotestosterone, thyroxine, triiodothyronine, progesterone, and hydrocortisone) and other relevant compounds (17α ethinylestradiol, bisphenol A, bisphenol S, nonylphenol, flutamide, nilutamide, linuron, drospirenone, potassium perchlorate,

We tested the freshwater mudsnail Potamopyrgus antipodarum, which is a species that has already been used for endocrine-disrupting compounds (EDCs) to determine whether early life stages of aquatic organisms are sensitive to genotoxic chemicals. For this purpose, we first developed the alkaline comet assay on adults, embryos, and neonates. The comet assay protocol was validated on both embryonic cells exposed in vitro to hydrogen peroxide and adult snails in the reproducing stage exposed to methyl methane sulfonate. During the latter experiment, DNA strand breaks were investigated on both embr

Laccase activity is influenced by copper (Cu) as an inducer. In this study, laccase was immobilized on Cu and Cu-magnetic (Cu/Fe2O4) nanoparticles (NPs) to improve enzyme stability and potential applications. The Cu/Fe2O4 NPs functionally activated by 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane and glutaraldehyde exhibited an immobilization yield and relative activity (RA) of 93.1 and 140%, respectively. Under optimized conditions, Cu/Fe2O4 NPs showed high loading of laccase up to 285 mg/g of support and maximum RA of 140% at a pH 5.0 after 24 h of incubation (4°C). Immobilized laccase, as Cu/Fe2O4-laccase,

Bisphenols are widely used in industrial applications to produce plastics and other consumer products. Among them, bisphenol A (BPA) is the most extensively studied due to its well-documented endocrine-disrupting effects and its association with various health conditions, including metabolic disorders and liver disease. Due to its known toxicity, BPA use has been restricted in many countries, leading to the emergence of several structural analogs. Recent studies have shown that BPA can interfere with normal liver metabolism by interacting with Liver X Receptor-beta (LXRβ). Although some BPA an

Bisphenol A (BPA) is being phased out owing to its endocrine-disrupting effects and is increasingly being replaced by its substitute compounds such as bisphenol AF (BPAF). This study aims to explore the potential adverse outcomes of prenatal BPAF exposure combined with postnatal cross-fostering on the development and long-term health effects of the mammary gland in offspring. The results suggested that prenatal BPAF exposure accelerates the puberty, and induces duct dilatations, angiogenesis, lobular hyperplasia, and enhanced inflammatory cell infiltration in the mammary gland of female offspr

Metabolic dysfunction that results from complex interactions between genetics, metabolism, and environmental factors has emerged as a major global health concern. Endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs), known for their ability to interfere with hormones and signalling cascades, are increasingly recognized for their role in promoting metabolic dysfunction. Bisphenol A (BPA), a widely used EDC, exhibits systemic toxicity, disrupting endocrine regulation while interfering with metabolism and energy homeostasis. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying BPA-induced metabolic dysfunction remain p

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a key industrial chemical, primarily used as a monomer for polycarbonate and epoxy resins, and widely found in food contact materials and consumer products. Owing to its well‑documented endocrine‑disrupting properties, the migration and exposure of BPA have attracted considerable attention in food safety and environmental monitoring. In response to rising detection demands and increasingly stringent regulatory limits, recent years have seen continuous development of efficient pretreatment methods coupled with accurate and sensitive detection techniques. Environmental concerns have intensified due to the widespread use of bisphenol analogues as BPA alternatives. In this study, we assessed the toxicity of Tetramethyl Bisphenol F (TMBPF) on Daphnia magna and investigated the underlying mechanisms, at multiple biological levels, encompassing transcriptomic pathway alterations, growth and reproductive impairment, and behavioral changes. The 48 h EC50 was 1.30 mg/L, which is lower than that of BPA, BPF, BPS, and BPAF. The 21 d NOEC for reproduction was 0.20 mg/L, classifying TMBPF as a GHS Category 2 chronic aquatic toxicant. Bisphenol A (BPA), a prototypical environmental endocrine disruptor with ubiquitous presence in aquatic systems, has prompted significant environmental and public health concerns. Addressing the urgent need for rapid and sensitive monitoring, we developed an innovative tri-modal lateral flow assay (LFA) platform powered by multifunctional MWCNTs/Fe-N-C nanozymes. The designed nanozyme enables the simultaneous output of three signal modes: intrinsic colorimetry, catalytic colorimetry, and catalytic photothermal colorimetry. The three signal channels act synergistically: intrinsic coloration pro

BACKGROUND: Bisphenol A (BPA), a widespread environmental pollutant, has been extensively studied for its effects on bacteria and plant, but its impact on rhizosphere bacterial communities and plant root traits is less understood. At the same time, the role of bacteria in helping plants resist adversity is widely recognized, but the relationship between BPA-induced with rhizosphere bacterial changes and root development is still unclear. Therefore, this study investigated the effects of varying BPA concentrations (1.5, 17.2, and 50 mg/L) on soybean root traits and rhizosphere bacterial communi

The increased occurrence and concentration of micropollutants in water supplies raise public health concerns. Advanced oxidation of micropollutants in real water sources remains challenging due to scavenging reactions involving background anions and natural organic matter. For the first time, this paper demonstrates that chloride (Cl-) accelerates the activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) by iron-biochar (Fe/BC) composites. Under the tested conditions, this novel system completely degraded bisphenol A (BPA), a representative micropollutant, within 1.0 min. Micropollutant degradation was invest

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a kind of exogenous chemicals presenting in the human living environment widely which affects the action of endocrine hormones in the human body. Numerous studies have shown that BPA has reproductive toxicity in the spermatogenic function damage of the testes through a variety of mechanisms such as interfering with endocrine function, inducing oxidative stress, promoting spermatogonial cell apoptosis, destroying the integrity of the blood-testis barrier, and regulating epigenetic inheritance, thereby destroying male fertility. Relevant studies have shown that TCM can impro

The increasing prevalence of emerging contaminants in aquatic systems represents a critical challenge to ecological and human health. Compounds such as losartan potassium (LO), bisphenol A (BPA), and triclosan (TN) have been identified as priority pollutants due to their environmental persistence, bioaccumulative behavior, and mechanistic involvement in endocrine disruption and the propagation of antimicrobial resistance. This study reports the synthesis of a zinc-based metal-organic framework functionalized with graphene oxide (MOF-Zn@GO) via a reflux method, using 2-aminoterephthalic acid an

Bisphenol A (BPA), a common environmental endocrine disruptor, has been shown to adversely affect male reproductive function. However, the mechanisms of reproductive impairment in both BPA-exposed males (F0) and their unexposed offspring (F1) remain unclear. Furthermore, there are currently no reports on that paternal Zinc (Zn) and/or Selenium (Se) supplementation ameliorate BPA-induced and transgenerational reproductive damage in F0 and F1, respectively. This study aimed to address these scientific issues by integrating transcriptomics and metabolomics. Our results revealed that BPA induced r
