The breast mass is a clinical problem commonly encountered by family physicians. Fine-needle and core biopsy techniques require training and cytopathologist support. In contrast, breast cyst aspiration using a 21- or 22-gauge needle is a simple, cost-effective, minimally invasive procedure. The technique is easy to learn and can be practiced on a breast model. A cryptococcal abscess of the breast is uncommon and may mimic a neoplastic lesion. We describe a patient with an isolated cryptococcal infection of the breast, which was treated with oral fluconazole in combination with surgical excision. With the exception of diabetes mellitus type II, no underlying predisposing illness was identified.

In 20 years we registered seven observations of breast cancer presenting as an axillary mass (BCAM), meaning 0.9% out of the global breast cancer series (767 cases). All the cases were females. An overview is provided of the genetics of hereditary breast cancer, as well as the clinical aspects and the management of this disease. We report the case of a 20-year-old female with lymphoma of the breast. Mammography showed an asymmetric pattern of confluent densities without any discrete mass. Sonography revealed diffuse heterogenous echoic mass intermingled with low-and medium level echoes. We present the clinical, radiographic and histologic features of primary breast lymphoma with a brief review of the literatures.

A review of publications on breast self-examination (BSE) up to the middle of 1991 showed that evidence supporting BSE has strengthened since 1989. BSE is associated with a smaller size of tumor at diagnosis and has the potential to reduce breast cancer mortality. Mortality reduction is likely to be achieved only if BSE is competently performed and if appropriate diagnostic follow-up is accessible. Because screening is justified when preclinical disease is prevalent, BSE practice is important for women 40 years of age and older.
