In the title compound, [CdCl(2)(C(12)H(12)N(2))], the Cd(II) atom is four-coordinated in a distorted tetra-hedral geometry by two N atoms from a 6,6'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridine ligand and two terminal Cl atoms. Inter-molecular C-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds and π-π stacking inter-actions between the pyridyl rings [centroid-centroid distance = 3.7337 (18) Å] are present in the crystal structure.

The reaction of stanna- closo-dodecaborate [SnB 11H 11] (2-) (1) with CdBr 2 gave the tetrahedrally coordinated compound [Cd(SnB 11H 11) 4] (6-)(2). The same coordination mode can be found in [Hg(SnB 11H 11) 4] (6-) (3), which was obtained by reaction of stannaborate with Hg 2Cl2. Both compounds were characterized by single crystal X-ray analysis and heteronuclear NMR techniques.

Telluride precipitates in HgCdTe(MCT) and Raman scattering peaks of Hg vacancies are reported. We also analyze the relationship between the crystal surface perfection of MCT and its second-order scattering peaks. Intense bands at 125 and 145 cm-1 confirm them to be precipitates, and there is 2 cm-1 shift to high frequency in comparison with intense bands of normal trigonal Te. This shows the compressive stress exists around Te precipitates. The weak Raman peak at 108 cm-1 arise from Hg vacancies. The relationship between urinary metallothionein and kidney and liver cadmium levels was examined in 68 active and retired smelter workers.
