Capecitabine, a fluoropyrimidine carbamate with antineoplastic activity, is an oral agent that was developed as a prodrug of 5-fluorouracil and is used in the treatment of metastatic colorectal and breast cancers. Multiple cutaneous adverse effects had been described with the use of this drug, but to our knowledge, specific association with capecitabine and hand-foot syndrome with sclerodactyly-like changes has been described only once. We report a patient with a colon adenocarcinoma who presented with hand-foot syndrome, with sclerodactyly-like changes induced by capecitabine.

In vitro inhibition of goat cerebellar acetylcholinesterase by pure and commercial anticholinesterase pesticides clearly indicates a remarkably high inhibitory effect of commercial carbamate and organophosphate pesticides containing a lower percentage of the respective active ingredients comparable to that of the known anticholinesterase agents such as DFP and physostigmine. The anthelmintic efficacy of fenbendazole (methyl 5-(phenyl-thio)-2-benzimidazole-carbamate) against Moniezia expansa and Trichuris ovis was tested. At dose rates of 5 mg per kg and above, efficacies were found to be greater than 91 percent against M expansa and greater than 92 per cent against T ovis. At these dose rates efficacy on egg suppression was 100 per cent for Moniezia and greater than 97 per cent for Trichuris.

INTRODUCTION: Carbamate and organophosphate pesticides inhibit acetylcholinesterase, and poisoning leads to respiratory depression. Thus, involvement in sleep apnea is plausible, but no data exist at lower levels of exposure. Other pesticides could impact sleep apnea by different mechanisms but have not been studied. Allergic contact dermatitis remains an important problem worldwide. The objective of this study was to analyze patch test positivity trends of the North American Contact Dermatitis Group. A convenient "green" stereoretentive approach to sp3-enriched secondary sulfonamides bearing an asymmetric center at the α position to the sulfur atom is described. The method relies on the electrophilic amination of the corresponding stereochemically pure sulfinates with N-alkylhydroxylamine sulfonic acids (in turn easily prepared from N-alkylhydroxylamine and HSO3Cl). It is shown that the efficiency of the approach is governed mainly by steric factors; its tolerance to several functional groups (e.g., ether, phthalimide, or N-Boc carbamate) is also demonstrated.

A retrospective study at the Poison Control Center of Costa Rica describes the pattern of pesticide poisoning that occurred during 1996. A total of 1274 pesticide exposures were reported. Occupational exposures were the most frequent (38.5%), followed by accidental situations (33.8%) and suicidal attempts (22.5%). The male to female ratio was 2.4:1. A novel series of fluoro-surfactants, derived from glycosides (monosaccharides) or polyols (ureas or carbamates), have been produced for use in respiratory gas-carrying perfluorochemical emulsions. We have reported that atropine, the prototype of muscarinic anticholinergic drugs, elicits a dose-dependent increase in core temperature of heat-stressed rats. The title compound, C(5)H(10)N(2)S(5), was unintentionally obtained as the product of an attempted synthesis of a methyl-carbamodithioic acid using methyl-amine and carbon disulfide. In the mol-ecule, two dithio-carbamate groups are bridged by a -CH(2)S- unit. The C-S-S-C torsion angle is -90.13 (11)°. The crystal structure is stabilized by N-H⋯S inter-actions between neighbouring mol-ecules. An intra-molecular N-H⋯S hydrogen bond also occurs.

During May and June of 1985 the Health Protection Branch and several other agencies were involved in the investigation of over 300 reports of illness reported in the Vancouver area of British Columbia, Canada. Symptoms reported included nausea, vomiting, dizziness, muscle fasciculation and blurred vision. A review of the onset of symptoms and food consumed suggested that at least 140 people had become ill from eating cucumbers adulterated with a carbamate pesticide. The presence of residues of aldicarb in cucumbers from one particular producer was confirmed by laboratory analysis.

Thirteen acaricides used for control of cattle tick in Queensland were evaluated for their potential in the chemical control of the screw-worm fly, Chrysomya bezziana. Laboratory evaluations and in vivo tests using artificially infested cattle were made in Papua New Guinea. Most of the acaricides caused some mortality of screw-worm larvae in infested cattle and in laboratory tests. Acaricides of the organophosphorous, carbamate and organophosphorous/synthetic pyrethroid groups showed reasonable activity against screw-worm fly, but the amidines were less effective.
