Pfeifer-Weber-Christian Disease: A Case Report and Review of Literature on Visceral Involvements and Treatment Choices.

Pfeifer-Weber-Christian disease (PWCD) is a rare idiopathic disease characterized by lobular panniculitis of adipose tissue with systemic symptoms and multiple organ involvement. Even though the systemic involvement is rare, it is life-threatening and represent a treatment challenge for the clinicians. We report a case of PWCD characterized by hepatic, hematologic, and renal involvement, with good response to mofetil mycophenolate and prednisone treatment. A 47-year-old female presented several months' history of painful subcutaneous nodules, fever and lymphadenopathy with recent appearing of

[Histiocytosis X. Follow-up for over 20 years in a patient with Hand-Schüller-Christian disease].

Since 1963 we have observed a patient with Hand-Schüller-Christian disease with involvement of the skeleton, skin and hypophysis/hypothalamus with diabetes insipidus. The diabetes insipidus was successfully treated initially with chlorpropamid and later with carbamazepin. Alterations of the lung parenchyma were seen radiologically in 1966, and two years later the patient complained of exertional dyspnea. The lung disease was progressive with the deterioration of lung function despite corticosteroid and D-penicillamine treatment. The patient now has marked dyspnea even at rest. The osteolytic l

Adaptation and Validation of the 14-Item Religious and Spiritual Struggles Scale Among Russian Orthodox Christian Women.

Religious and spiritual (R/S) struggles are associated with psychological distress across cultures, yet no validated Russian-language instrument exists to assess these experiences in Orthodox Christian populations. This study adapted and validated the Religious and Spiritual Struggles Scale (RSS-14) for Russian Orthodox Christian women. Two samples of Russian Orthodox Christian women were recruited through Orthodox online platforms during Great Lent 2025: a cross-sectional sample (N = 593) and a longitudinal sample (N = 476) assessed over six weeks. Structural validity was evaluated using conf

Attitudes and Preferences Regarding Mental Illness and Treatment Among Christian and Religious/Spiritual-Unaffiliated Individuals in the USA.

Research regarding the role of a religious/spiritual (R/S) identity in psychotherapeutic processes and outcomes is limited. Consideration of client treatment preferences specifically has implications for treatment engagement and retention; however, research on the relationship between preferences and client R/S identification is mixed. The current project included two studies of R/S-unaffiliated (Study 1, n = 96; Study 2, n = 135) and Christian (Study 1, n = 90; Study 2, n = 132) participants in the USA. Study 1 investigated differences between these individuals with respect to attitudes towar

Exploring the interface of religion, infertility and assisted reproduction: experiences of Pacific Christian adults in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Religion contributes to the identity, well-being, and life satisfaction of many people globally, however, its traditional stance on infertility and assisted reproductive technologies (ART) can conflict with individuals' personal reproductive aspirations and desire for a family. As the fertility rates of certain ethnic and religious groups decline, it is essential to discuss the interface between religion, infertility and ART, to understand how to best navigate the infertility journeys of proclaimed Christians. This article contextualises this discussion in the experiences of eight Pacific Chri

Prevalence and risk factors of posttraumatic stress symptoms among Internally Displaced Christian couples in Erbil, Iraq.

BACKGROUND: Research about the impact of war and displacement experiences on the mental health of Internally Displaced People (IDPs) has recently grown. However, a limited number of studies focus on minorities. The objective of the present preliminary study was to estimate the prevalence of posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSSs) among IDPs who live outside camps and belong to the Christian minority in Iraq, and to identify possible predictors. METHODS: Overall, 108 internally displaced Christians (54 married couples) participated in the study. Traumatic events and PTSSs were assessed using the

Beyond the myth: the mermaid syndrome from Homerus to Andersen. A tribute to Hans Christian Andersen's bicentennial of birth.

Mermaid or sirens have been part of the cultural tradition of the sailors during the first expeditions in the western world. The Siren's Myth appeared for a first time with Homer, who described in the Odyssey some singing creatures that lured the enchanted sailors to death. More frequently described with a bird body and a female head, sometimes the female part was extended to torso, with arms prolonged in sturdy claws. In the Latin literature Publius Ovidius Naso presented in the Métamorphoses these creatures. Proposed ethymology for the word "siren" seems to confirm the prerogatives of these

Multisystem Langerhans' cell histiocytosis (Hand-Schüller-Christian disease) in an adult: a case report and review of the literature.

Langerhans' cell histiocytosis (LCH) is a rare and enigmatic clonal disorder that affects mainly children. It is characterized by single or multiple granulomatous mass lesions composed of cells with the Langerhans' cell phenotype. Clinical presentation and behavior are heterogeneous and can range from a solitary lytic bone lesion (i.e., eosinophilic granuloma) with a favorable course to a fatal disseminated leukaemia-like form, with a wide spectrum of intermediate clinical presentations between these two extremes. Although LCH typically involves the bone, lesions can be found in almost all org
