Design of global climate control based on fuzzy systems with concept of carbon emissions.

The global carbon-climate system is a highly complex and dynamic network characterized by multiple feedback loops between interconnected components. Addressing the risks of climate change requires active intervention across these components (Atmospheric level, Surface ocean, and Terrestrial biosphere). Consequently, this research introduces a new mathematical fuzzy control theory to explore how control mechanisms, incorporating both open and closed-loop, can help guide the carbon-climate system toward more stable and sustainable levels. First, a fuzzy mathematical generalization as a compartme

Impact of regional climate change on the mosquito vector Aedes albopictus in a tropical island environment: La Réunion.

The recent expansion of Aedes albopictus across continents in both tropical and temperate regions and the exponential growth of dengue cases over the past 50 years represent a significant risk to human health. Although climate change is not the only factor responsible for the increase and spread of dengue cases worldwide, it might increase the risk of disease transmission at global and regional scale. Here we show that regional and local variations in climate can induce differential impacts on the abundance of Ae. albopictus. We use the instructive example of Réunion Island with its varied cli

Predicting the geographic distribution of Lutzomyia longipalpis (Diptera: Psychodidae) and visceral leishmaniasis in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil.

To understand the geographic distribution of visceral leishmaniasis (VL) in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul (MS), Brazil, both the climatic niches of Lutzomyia longipalpis and VL cases were analysed. Distributional data were obtained from 55 of the 79 counties of MS between 2003-2012. Ecological niche models (ENM) of Lu. longipalpis and VL cases were produced using the maximum entropy algorithm based on eight climatic variables. Lu. longipalpis showed a wide distribution in MS. The highest climatic suitability for Lu. longipalpis was observed in southern MS. Temperature seasonality and annual

Potential climate change effects on the distribution of urban and sylvatic dengue and yellow fever vectors.

Climate change may increase the risk of dengue and yellow fever transmission by urban and sylvatic mosquito vectors. Previous research primarily focused on Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus. However, dengue and yellow fever have a complex transmission cycle involving sylvatic vectors. Our aim was to analyze how the distribution of areas favorable to both urban and sylvatic vectors could be modified as a consequence of climate change. We projected, to future scenarios, baseline distribution models already published for these vectors based on the favorability function, and mapped the areas wher

Global vulnerability assessment of mobile telecommunications infrastructure to climate hazards using crowdsourced open data.

Climate change is intensifying coastal flooding, riverine flooding and tropical cyclones, yet risks to telecommunications infrastructure remain poorly quantified despite growing societal dependence on digital connectivity. We present a global, event-based geospatial assessment of mobile cellular infrastructure vulnerability, combining open crowdsourced asset data with global climate hazard models under historical conditions and future scenarios, RCP4.5 and RCP8.5. We analyse approximately 19.7 million mobile basestations globally, estimating exposure and direct damage across a range of event r

Intersecting risks: A longitudinal analysis of climate exposure, social vulnerability, and mental health in the Texas Gulf Coast.

This study investigates the evolving intersection of social vulnerability, climate exposure, and mental health distress in Harris County, Texas, from 2014 to 2022, with projections through 2030. Using census tract-level data and integrating indicators from the CDC Social Vulnerability Index, climate exposure metrics, and mental health outcomes, we developed predictive models to forecast future trends. Results indicate a significant rise in overall social vulnerability-from a score of 8.16 in 2022 to 8.87 by 2030, driven by increasing poverty, extreme heat, flooding, and deteriorating mental he

Imminent rapid decline of the Indonesian Throughflow after reaching a turning point of CO2 concentration.

The Indonesian Throughflow (ITF) represents the only tropical inter-ocean pathway of global ocean circulation and plays a central role in the Earth's climate system. Climate models suggest that the ITF would be weakened under global warming, but historical observations indicate a contradictory trend. Here using CMIP6 simulations, we find that the response of the ITF to increasing atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration is nonlinear and exhibits an abrupt rapid decline after surpassing a turning point. The ITF's decline can be explained by the response of its halosteric and thermosteric …

Spatial structure in protected forest-grassland mosaics: Exploring futures under climate change.

In mosaic ecosystems, multiple land types coexist as alternative stable states exhibiting distinct spatial patterns. Forest-grassland mosaics are ecologically valuable, due to their high species richness. However, anthropogenic disturbances threaten these ecosystems. Designating protected areas is one approach to preserving natural mosaics. Such work must account for climate change, yet there are few spatially explicit models of mosaics under climate change that can predict its effects. We construct a spatially explicit simulation model for a natural forest-grassland mosaic, parameterized for

Spatio-temporal patterns and climate-associated risk of elevated somatic cell count in dairy herd under tropical conditions.

Somatic cell count (SCC) is a widely used indicator of udder health and milk quality in dairy cattle; however, its spatio-temporal dynamics under tropical production conditions remain poorly understood. This study aimed to characterize spatio-temporal patterns of herd-level SCC and to evaluate associations between climatic conditions and SCC variation in Northern Thailand. An observational longitudinal study was conducted using 5,045 monthly herd-level observations from 102 dairy farms in Chiang Mai between January 2022 and August 2025. SCC was log10-transformed and analyzed as the primary out

A Retrospective Study of Climate Change Affecting Dengue: Evidences, Challenges and Future Directions.

Climate change is unexpected weather patterns that can create an alarming situation. Due to climate change, various sectors are affected, and one of the sectors is healthcare. As a result of climate change, the geographic range of several vector-borne human infectious diseases will expand. Currently, dengue is taking its toll, and climate change is one of the key reasons contributing to the intensification of dengue disease transmission. The most important climatic factors linked to dengue transmission are temperature, rainfall, and relative humidity. The present study carries out a systematic

Assessing biophysical and economic changes in Posidonia oceanica carbon sequestration under climate change scenarios.

Marine ecosystems act as carbon sinks, particularly through vegetated habitats such as seagrass meadows. In the Mediterranean Sea, the endemic Posidonia oceanica is one of the most important seagrass species for climate change mitigation due to its high capacity to store large amounts of carbon dioxide over long periods of time. To assess and monitor changes in environmental conditions and the economic value of natural resources, this study aims to estimate the effects of climate change on the carbon sequestration capacity of P. oceanica under different detailed climate change scenarios. Zika and Chikungunya in Europe 2100 - A GIS based model for risk estimation.

BACKGROUND: The spread of vector-borne infectious diseases is determined, among other things, by temperature. Thus, climate change will have an influence on their global distribution. In the future, Europe will approach the temperature optimum for the transmission of ZIKV and CHIKV. Climate scenarios and climate models can be used to depict future climatic changes and to draw conclusions about future risk areas for vector-borne infectious diseases. METHODS: Based on the RCP 4.5 and RCP 8.5 climate scenarios, a geospatial analysis was carried out for the future temperature suitability of ZIKV …

Comparison of the spatial patterns of schistosomiasis in Zimbabwe at two points in time, spaced twenty-nine years apart: is climate variability of importance?

Temperature, precipitation and humidity are known to be important factors for the development of schistosome parasites as well as their intermediate snail hosts. Climate therefore plays an important role in determining the geographical distribution of schistosomiasis and it is expected that climate change will alter distribution and transmission patterns. Reliable predictions of distribution changes and likely transmission scenarios are key to efficient schistosomiasis intervention-planning. However, it is often difficult to assess the direction and magnitude of the impact on schistosomiasis i

PM10 and Other Climatic Variables Are Important Predictors of Seasonal Variability of Coccidioidomycosis in Arizona.

Coccidioidomycosis (Valley fever) is a disease caused by the fungal pathogens Coccidioides immitis and Coccidioides posadasii that are endemic to the southwestern United States and parts of Mexico and South America. Throughout the range where the pathogens are endemic, there are seasonal patterns of infection rates that are associated with certain climatic variables. Previous studies that looked at annual and monthly relationships of coccidioidomycosis and climate suggest that infection numbers are linked with precipitation and temperature fluctuations; however, these analytic methods may miss

Incorporating climate projections in the environmental risk assessment of pesticides in aquatic ecosystems.

Global climate change will significantly impact the biodiversity of freshwater ecosystems, both directly and indirectly via the exacerbation of impacts from other stressors. Pesticides form a prime example of chemical stressors that are expected to synergize with climate change. Aquatic exposures to pesticides might change in magnitude due to increased runoff from agricultural fields, and in composition, as application patterns will change due to changes in pest pressures and crop types. Any prospective chemical risk assessment that aims to capture the influence of climate change should proper

New evidence of the emergence of the East Asian monsoon in the early Palaeogene.

Previous palaeoenvironmental reconstructions have implied that East Asia was dominated by a zonal climate pattern during the Eocene, with an almost latitudinal arid/semiarid band at ~ 30° N. However, this long-standing model has recently been challenged by growing body of multidisciplinary evidence. Some studies indicated that central China was characterized by climatic fluctuations between humid and drier conditions during the Early Eocene, akin to the present East Asian monsoon (EAM) regime. Using palynological assemblages in the Tantou Basin, central China, we quantitatively reconstructed c
