Haematoma of the sigmoid colon secondary to Ehlers Danlos Syndrome presenting as a colonic tumour.

Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS) is a collective term for a number of connective tissue disorders. Vascular rupture and dissection are well-documented sequelae as is gastrointestinal perforation. We present a rare presentation where dissection of the bowel wall presented as a suspected sigmoid colon tumour.

[ Pathology of the colon associated with diverticulosis of the descending colon and the sigmoid. Instrumental clinical study ].

A retrospective survey was carried out on 87 patients with diverticulosis and 223 control subjects with a view to studying the incidence of colon pathology in association with diverticulosis of the colon. All subjects were given colonoscopies of the distal section of the colon. The survey revealed that the group of diverticulosis patients was, on average, older than the control group (72 v. 59 years). There was no significant difference in the performance or totality of the endoscopic examination. Subjective and objective symptomatology revealed no a priori evidence of pathology associated wit

Case report: Migratory biliary stent resulting in sigmoid colon perforation.

Biliary stent insertion during endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography is a therapeutic intervention to relieve obstruction and facilitate flow through the biliary tree. In rare circumstances, these stents can migrate and result in distal gastrointestinal perforation, which may necessitate endoscopic or surgical intervention. We report a case involving a 79-year-old female who presented with peritonitis due to sigmoid colon perforation following biliary stent migration. The stent was placed to treat acute cholangitis with choledocholithiasis. Two weeks following stent placement, gastroe

Delayed presentation of congenital sigmoid colon stenosis: a rare entity.

Congenital sigmoid colon stenosis is a rare entity that can mimic Hirschsprung disease. Presentation of congenital colon stenosis is usually within first few weeks of life. Our case presented with features of distal bowel obstruction at 2 years of age with the history of chronic constipation and progressive abdominal distention from first week of life and bilious vomiting for the last 1 week. Clinical diagnosis of Hirschsprung disease was made. Contrast enhanced CT abdomen showed bowel obstruction with transition point at the level of proximal sigmoid colon. There was a short segment stenosis

Colo-Fallopian Fistula: A Rare Complication of Sigmoid Colon Diverticulitis.

Diverticulitis is a common colorectal disease present in Western countries that develops as infected protrusions (diverticula) along weak points in the colon due to increased intraluminal pressure. Most patients with diverticular disease can be asymptomatic; however, several complications can arise from the development of diverticulitis. Here, we discuss the diagnosis and management of a patient presenting with recurrent Escherichia coli (E. coli) vaginal infections due to sigmoid colon diverticulitis resulting in a colo-fallopian fistula that was unremarkable on diagnostic imaging. The patien

CHRONIC PSEUDO-OBSTRUCTION OF THE SIGMOID COLON: A CASE REPORT.

Chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction (CIPO) is a rare syndrome characterized by signs of intestinal obstruction lasting for 6 months or more, in the absence of a definitive cause of obstruction. We report a case of CIPO in a 49-year-old female patient with a 6-month history of ongoing irregular bowel movements, manifested as constipation and diarrhea accompanied by abdominal pain and bloated feeling. Contrast-enhanced abdominal computed tomography and magnetic resonance enterography revealed focal thickening of a segment of the lienal flexure and intermittent areas of wider and narrower calib

Primary diffuse large B-cell lymphoma of the sigmoid colon.

INTRODUCTION: Extranodal lymphomas are commonly encountered in the gastrointestinal tract but lymphomas of colon and rectum are rare. Non-Hodgkin lymphoma is the most common type of colonic lymphoma and represents less than 0.5% of colorectal neoplasms. Chemotherapeutical agents are gateway to disease remission and sometimes cure in most patients but surgery may be necessary in emergent situations. CASE PRESENTATION: A 77-year-old male patient presented with abdominal discomfort, constipation, and obstructive defecation symptoms. Radiological imaging revealed a mass in the sigmoid colon exten

Epstein-Barr virus-positive mucocutaneous ulcer mimicking sigmoid colon adenocarcinoma.

Epstein-Barr virus-positive mucocutaneous ulcer (EBVMCU) belongs to a spectrum of EBV-associated lymphoproliferative disease. We present the case of an 89-year-old female with seronegative polyarthritis treated for several years with methotrexate (12.5 mg weekly). She also had asthenia, anorexia and a positive fecal immunohistochemical test. In view of the above, a colonoscopy was performed that revealed a polypoid mass with a malignant appearance in the sigmoid colon, which prevented the passage of the endoscope and was suggestive of colonic adenocarcinoma (CAC).

Intense 68Ga-PSMA Uptake in Diverticulum of the Sigmoid Colon.

We present a case of a diverticulum of the sigmoid colon with intense prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) activity on Ga-PSMA PET/CT. CT scan and colonoscopy showed no signs of inflammation or malignancy. This case presents an addition to the collection of benign pitfalls when reporting PSMA PET/CT; however, a Ga-PSMA up-taking focus in the colon should always cause further examination, as malignant etiology must be ruled out.

Spontaneous Transvaginal Sigmoid Colon Evisceration and Sepsis From Complete Procidentia.

BACKGROUND: Transvaginal bowel evisceration is an exceptionally rare event. Most reported cases are of small bowel evisceration in postmenopausal women who have undergone hysterectomy. CASE: Here, we report an isolated case of complete procidentia and spontaneous sigmoid colon evisceration leading to sepsis in an 89-year-old woman with no surgical history. CONCLUSIONS: We highlight the risk factors, clinical presentation, and treatment options for this unique multidisciplinary emergency.

[A Case of Sigmoid Colon Cancer Identified by Gastric Perforation].

We report a case of sigmoid colon cancer that was incidentally found using CT that was performed for upper abdominal pain. An 83-year-old man with a long history of lung tuberculosis and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis presented with upper abdominal pain. CT findings revealed free gas around the stomach. He was diagnosed with upper gastrointestinal perforation and his condition improved after undergoing conservative treatment. Upper endoscopy revealed an irregular ulcer at the angular incisure of the stomach with thickened folds, but biopsy resulted in a Group 1 classification. CT findings also

Adenocarcinoma arising in sigmoid colon neovagina 53 years after construction.

BACKGROUND: In view of the rarity of vaginal agenesis, malignancy arising in the neovagina is extremely rare. CASE PRESENTATION: Here, we report a 76-year-old female with an adenocarcinoma arising in the sigmoid colon neovagina which was constructed 53 years ago for congenital vaginal agenesis. Vaginal endoscopy to examine vaginal bleeding revealed a protruding lesion occupying three quarters of the lumen in the vicinity of anastomosis of the residual vagina and sigmoid colon. Transvaginal ultrasonography revealed the muscularis propria layer (hypoechoic fourth layer) to be interrupted. CT re

Single port laparoscopic repair of sigmoid colon perforation during colonoscopy.

Colonic perforation during colonoscopy is a rare but lethal complication. Recently, it is usually managed with laparoscopic approach. Here we present our experience of single incision laparoscopic repair for sigmoid colon perforation during colonoscopy. A 57-year-old male patient presented with an acute sigmoid colon perforation event during diagnostic colonoscopy. Emergency operation was performed with transumbilical single incision laparoscopic exploration. The perforated site of sigmoid colon was primarily repaired with the curved endoscopic linear stapler. The patient was discharged after
