Community-engaged research (CEnR) is a participatory approach that foregrounds community priorities and applies research results to community action. CEnR embodies shared decision-making by including community partners' values, preferences, and experiences within the research process. CEnR projects can help medical student learners acquire skills in conducting needs assessments and more fully appreciate the social determinants of health and challenges faced by communities. CEnR does not prescribe specific methods for addressing research questions. Rather, it is a collaborative approach with co

BackgroundExisting knowledge on healthcare use and costs in the last months of life is often limited to one patient group (i.e., cancer patients) and one level of healthcare (i.e., secondary care). Consequently, decision-makers lack knowledge in order to make informed decisions about the allocation of healthcare resources for all patients. Our aim is to elaborate the understanding of resource use and costs in the last six months of life by describing healthcare use and costs for all causes of death and by all levels of formal care.MethodUsing five national registers, we gained access to patien

BACKGROUND: The legal enforcement of drug possession is associated with a host of negative consequences for people who use drugs (PWUD), has demonstrated little effectiveness at curbing drug use, and has contributed to lasting financial, social, and health-related racial disparities in Black and Brown communities in the United States (U.S.). One policy alternative is reinvesting resources typically used for enforcing drug possession into health-promoting services such as drug treatment or harm reduction that can better serve the needs of PWUD than the criminal legal system. We sought to charac

INTRODUCTION: Women Veterans (WVs) with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) experience increased risks during pregnancy and often require coordinated, multi-disciplinary care across Veterans Affairs (VA) and community health systems. Although the VA provides maternity care coordinators (MCCs), little is known about how WVs with RA and their providers perceive pregnancy-related care and communication within and outside the VA. This study identified barriers and facilitators to coordinated pregnancy and postpartum care for WVs with RA.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We conducted semi-structured virtual interview

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to address the current evidence gap on understanding the Australian pharmacists' readiness and perceptions about the provision of antibiotics for uncomplicated urinary tract infection (UTI) management in the community setting.
METHODS: A self-administered online survey tool was used to collect data from Australian pharmacists. Pharmacists were recruited via email and by advertising the study on social media platforms. The survey included questions on demographics, perceived benefits, willingness, competence, training adequacy, barriers, and enablers to providing U

INTRODUCTION: The Community Engagement (CE) Studio is an established approach for integrating community and patient perspectives into research. Despite its widespread implementation, little information is available about how this model has been adapted across institutions to accommodate varying resources and capacities.
METHODS: The Patient and Community Engagement in Research (PaCER) Program at UNC-Chapel Hill modified the CE Studio model - with adaptations to recruitment, onboarding, virtual delivery, compensation, and session planning - resulting in the development of a new Community Feedb

BACKGROUND: People experiencing socio-economic disadvantage face significantly higher rates of diet-related health inequities. This study aimed to explore barriers, opportunities and potential solutions in providing food and nutrition services to people experiencing socio-economic disadvantage from the perspective of services providers. The present study is part of a broad co-design model to improve service provision for people experiencing socio-economic disadvantage.

INTRODUCTION: Skin cancer prevention is a public health priority due to its high incidence and potential to cause significant morbidity and mortality. This study evaluated the effectiveness of an early skin cancer detection program in a community pharmacy, utilizing advanced technologies and interdisciplinary collaboration.
OBJECTIVES: 1. Early detection of melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer in patients visiting the community pharmacy. 2. Facilitate patient referral to a dermatologist through the pharmacy.

Swaziland has among the highest national adult HIV prevalence globally. There is limited knowledge of HIV vulnerabilities and prevention engagement among lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) persons in the context of Swaziland's criminalization of consensual same-sex practices. This study explored social processes of marginalization to assess how they could potentiate HIV vulnerabilities and limit engagement in HIV prevention services. Additionally, we assessed positive change to better understand existing strategies employed by LGBT persons to challenge these HIV prevention barriers.

Although there is evidence that non-government health system actors can individually or collectively develop practical strategies to address primary health care (PHC) challenges in the community, existing frameworks for analysing health system governance largely focus on the role of governments, and do not sufficiently account for the broad range of contribution to PHC governance. This is important because of the tendency for weak governments in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). We present a multi-level governance framework for use as a thinking guide in analysing PHC governance in LMI

The 2026 Association of Biomolecular Resource Facilities (ABRF) annual meeting took place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, from March 28-31, 2026, and brought scientific core directors, core staff, institutional leadership, and industry partners together into community to discuss their challenges, goals, and successes in supporting and advancing Shared Research Resources (SRRs). The tagline for the meeting was, "Innovating at the intersection of science, technology, and collaboration." For many in the SRR community, the ABRF conference is a highlight of the year, and for the over 800 attendees, th

This article discusses how community-based participatory research (CBPR) on hospital care transitions in New Haven, Connecticut led to the development of a new medical respite program to better serve patients who are homeless. Key insights include: • Homelessness is an important driver of hospital utilization and must be addressed in efforts to decrease hospital readmissions. • Hospitals and community organizations often serve a shared patient/client base and can work together to develop innovative programs that are beneficial to all parties. • Community-based participatory research methods ar

This qualitative longitudinal multiple-case study examined written Catalan development in four deaf adults with limited formal literacy attending a Catalan Sign Language-mediated community literacy course taught by a Deaf instructor. Twelve focal texts, collected at initial, midpoint, and final course-embedded writing occasions, were analyzed across orthography, lexical resources, morphosyntax, cohesion, and discourse organization. Participant-level trajectories and complete focal texts provided the primary basis for interpretation. Later productions were generally longer and showed broader co

Homelessness and intimate partner violence (IPV) do not impact all communities equally. Survivors from marginalized communities-that is communities that have been historically and structurally excluded from social, economic, and political resources-face additional challenges weathering IPV and housing crises. Understanding the housing experiences of marginalized survivors is necessary to achieve housing equity for all survivors. Community-based participatory research methods were utilized to convene 14 listening sessions (7 primary/7 validation) with Black and Latinx IPV survivors with interse
