BACKGROUND: The increasing prevalence of macrolide resistant Mycoplasma genitalium is a major concern worldwide. BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Retinoblastoma, a prototype of hereditary cancer, is the most common intraocular tumor in children and a potential cause of blindness from therapeutic eye ablation, second tumors in germ line mutation carriers, and even death when untreated. The molecular scanning of RB1 in search of germ line mutations in 213 retinoblastoma patients from Spain, Cuba, Colombia and Serbia, has led to the detection of 106 mutations whose knowledge is important for genetic counselling and characterization of phenotypic-genotypic relations.

Cuba reported the first dengue hemorrhagic fever epidemic in the American region in 1981. More than 344 203 cases with 10 312 severe and very severe cases and 158 fatalities were reported. A study was conducted on the presence of Cryptosporidium sp in 47 Cuban adult patients infected by HIV in different infective stages in order to assess for the first time its prevalence in this group. The parasite was found in 18 patients (38.3%), of whom 18 (44.7%) were asymptomatic. The most frequent symptoms were aqueous diarrhea, fever, abdominal colics, asthemia and weight loss. Emphasis is placed on the frequently asymptomatic nature of these infections, which could be an important reservoir for nosocomial transmission of this disease among individuals with immunological disregulations.

Havana Syndrome is used to describe the array of deficits seen in diplomats stationed in Cuba from August 2016 to September 2017.1 Patients from this cohort were clinically studied, investigating their symptoms, audition and vestibular deficits, and imaging abnormalities seen on MRI.1-3 The primary studies were retrospective, looking at how these symptoms could be classified or fit into diagnostic criteria. INTRODUCTION: Fasciolosis is a source of serious economic loss in various regions of Brazil and when control measures of its host (molluscs) are not taken under favorable ecological conditions, isolated cases of human Fasciolosis may occur. Morphometrics differences of 2 species of the genus Biomphalaria in Cuba (B. havanensis and B. orbignyi) were studied. These are potential intermediate hosts of schistosomiasis whose taxonomic location has been discussed. A comparative study of 1,000 travellers coming back to Cuba from malaria-endemic areas is made. Screening for deficients of glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase by the methylene blue test is carried out in 500 of them; the other 500 did not undergo this test and were clinically observed throughout treatment. The figures for deficients and hemolytic syndrome were similar in the two groups.
