Valorization of cassava starch waste for multifunctional packaging: Optimizing antimicrobial, thermal, mechanical, and functional performance through nutmeg essential oil integration.

Cassava starch is a major global starch source, with 80 % of its production generating waste, predominantly cassava bagasse. This study valorized cassava bagasse by developing active packaging films incorporated with nutmeg essential oil (NO) at varying concentrations (1-3% w/w). The integration of NO increased film thickness from 0.38 mm to 0.67 mm, and tensile strength (TS) from 0.66 MPa to 1.19 MPa, while reducing density (1.33-1.21 g cm-3), transparency (75.51-53.62%), and solubility. Films exhibited higher opacity (46.72-58.73%) and enhanced color intensity. SEM images revealed fewer oil

Odorant receptor CaspOR39 underpinned cineole-mediated oviposition repellency in the rape stem weevil Ceutorhynchus asper.

Herbivorous insects rely on olfactory cues to select oviposition sites on host plants, which is a process critical for their reproductive success. The rape stem weevil, Ceutorhynchus asper Roel. (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), is a major pest that causes significant damage to rapeseed and other cruciferous crop production, yet the chemical and molecular mechanisms underlying its oviposition preference remain unknown. Our behavioral assays revealed that C. asper females strongly avoided pre-infested rapeseed plants. Five monoterpenes (p-cymene, 1,8-cineole, ocimene, camphor, and α-pinene) were ide

Mononuclear η6-arene ruthenium(II) complexes with pyrazolyl-pyridazine ligands: synthesis, CT-DNA binding, reactivity towards glutathione, and cytotoxicity.

Organometallic η6-arene ruthenium(II) complexes with 3-chloro-6-(1H-pyrazol-1-yl)pyridazine (Ru1, Ru2, and Ru5) and 3-chloro-6-(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)pyridazine (Ru3-4) N,N' heterocyclic and η6-arene (cymene (Ru1-4) or toluene (Ru 5)) have been synthesized. The ruthenium(II) complexes have common "three-legged piano-stool" pseudo-octahedral structures known for half-sandwich complexes. Evolution of their UV-Visible absorption spectra in PBS buffer or DMSO over 24 h confirmed their good solvolysis stability. Titrations of the complexes with the calf thymus DNA (CT-DNA) were monitored usi
