In this study, CA I and II isoenzymes were purified from Van Lake fish gills by using Sepharose-4B-L-tyrosine-sulfanilamide affinity chromatography and to determine the effects of some metals on the enzyme activities. For purified CA I isoenzyme, yield, specific activity, and purification fold were obtained as 42.07%, 4948.12 EU/mg protein, and 116.61 and for CA II isoenzyme, 7%, 1798.56 EU/mg protein, and 42.38 respectively. This study has shown for the first time that fish such as eels (Anguilla anguilla L.) and carp (Cyprinus carpio L.) are sensitive to type E botulinum toxin. With oral administration the MLD for eels was 27.500 mouse LD50 per kg body weight, while for carp it was only 236 mouse LD50 per kg. Carp were also found to be sensitive to a slight degree to type C botulinum toxin, the MLD of the most virulent toxin of this type being 457,000 mouse LD50 per kg with oral administration. Eels, however, showed no sensitivity to type C toxin.

This investigation was suggested by gross similarities between the pathophysiological features of Substance P (SP) administration and snake venom poisoning in mammals. Using standard procedures for the extraction, purification and bioassay of SP, levels of SP were measured both in vivo and in vitro before and after treatment of the preparations with venom. There was a consistent depletion of SP in the tissues studied following snake envenomation. The significance of this finding is discussed in the context of the mechanisms of action of snake venom.

Bacterial extracellular vesicles (BEVs) are natural nanocarriers that have shown great potential for biomedical applications such as biomarkers, cancer therapy, immunomodulators, vaccines, wound healing, tissue engineering, and drug carriers. In the present study, BEVs were isolated from the gram-negative bacterium, Aeromonas hydrophila using the ultracentrifugation method and denoted as AhEVs. We investigated 14 antibiotic residues in 8 marketed freshwater fish species from southeast China and estimated the associated health risks to local consumers. The antibiotic residues were determined by UPLC-MS/MS. Our findings revealed widespread distribution of quinolones (QNs), tetracyclines (TCs), and chloramphenicols (CAPs) in the freshwater fish.
