Mechanisms and Therapeutic Potential of Nutritional Immunity.

Nutritional immunity is a major facet of host defense, wherein the host immune system strategically limits pathogen access to critical nutrients, including iron, zinc, vitamins, lipids, and amino acids, to repress microbial proliferation and virulence. This review provides a comprehensive synthesis of the molecular mechanisms that power nutrient immunity, including metal homeostasis, nutrient competition, transporter modulation, hormonal regulation, and direct antimicrobial actions. We examine nutrient-specific strategies employed by the host, such as iron-withholding mechanisms, vitamin depri

Pyrazole Derivatives as Selective COX-2 Inhibitors: An Updated Review.

Inflammation is a defensive mechanism in the pathophysiology of many chronic diseases, including cancer, gastrointestinal problems, arthritis, cardiovascular disease, chronic wounds, and lesions, which may lead to death worldwide. Research over several decades has resulted in many non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), but they are associated with adverse drug reactions. As a result, the need for new anti-inflammatory drugs has significantly increased. A key target of NSAIDs, cyclooxygenase (COX) catalyses the synthesis of prostanoids, a broad family of arachidonic acid metabolites in

A Modern Odyssey of Prevention: Integrating Nutrition and Lifestyle in Radiation Mitigation- A Narrative Review.

Ionizing radiation, though indispensable in medicine, energy, and space exploration, imposes complex biological stresses that disrupt redox homeostasis, inflammation control, and genomic integrity, ultimately contributing to fibrosis, immunosuppression, and carcinogenesis. Despite advances in pharmacological radioprotectors and technological safeguards, their incomplete efficacy and safety concerns highlight the need for integrative and sustainable mitigation strategies. Emerging evidence supports that nutrition- and lifestyle-based interventions can attenuate radiation-induced injury and enha

"Targeting the Body Itself": Research Progress on the Anti-Inflammatory and Immunomodulatory Mechanisms of Traditional Chinese Medicine Based on Pyroptosis Theory.

BACKGROUND: Pyroptosis is a highly inflammatory form of regulated cell death executed by gasdermin proteins. It promotes the release of interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-18 to support host defense, yet its dysregulation contributes to sepsis, neurodegenerative disorders, and autoimmune diseases. Many current anti-inflammatory therapies are single-target and may not restore system-level immune balance. OBJECTIVE: To summarize core pyroptosis pathways and evaluate how Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) modulates pyroptosis through multi-component, multi-target regulation. METHODS: We synthesize mecha

Endocrino-Immuno-Senescence and Its Correlation with Age-Related Diseases: Molecular Insights into Immunomodulatory Strategies for Healthy Aging.

Regulation of the endocrine and immune system is pivotal for bodily homeostasis and healthy physiology, and these processes deteriorate as life progresses from adulthood to senescence. Aging, progressively weakening the structural and functional efficacies of the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid-adrenal-gonadal autoregulating axis, results in endocrino-immuno-senescence (EIS) that modulates a variety of complications and diseases. Both endocrine and immune responses are compromised during aging, along with impaired tissue regeneration, weakened pathogen detection, and decreased immune surveillan

Oxidative stress and metabolic dysfunction in oral lichen planus pathogenesis.

Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a chronic, immune-mediated inflammatory disease of the oral mucosa that can cause persistent pain and has a recognized, though relatively low, risk of malignant transformation. Recent studies have identified oxidative and nitrosative stress as key contributors to the pathophysiology of OLP. Excessive production of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species, combined with reduced antioxidant defenses, leads to cellular damage, including lipid peroxidation, protein modification, and DNA injury. This oxidative imbalance drives keratinocyte apoptosis and sustains inflammatory

Effects of Essential Oils as Antioxidant and Cryoprotective Agents in Improving Frozen and Thawed Human Sperm Criteria.

Sperm cryopreservation provides patients undergoing oncological, surgical, or infertility treatments the opportunity to conceive their own children, using assisted reproductive technologies. However, the freezing-thawing process can negatively influence both the quantity and the quality of spermatozoa, mainly due to an excessive production of reactive oxygen species and/or an impaired antioxidant defense system in sperm. Aromatic and medicinal plants synthesize essential oils with antioxidant proprieties as a part of their ecological adaptation to environmental stress, thanks to their rich bio
