Infection with duck Tembusu virus (DTMUV) can cause large economic losses to the duck-rearing industry in China. In this study, we isolated … against infection by the SDS-10 virulent strain. Our data demonstrate that the vaccine can protect ducks from becoming infected with TMUV. Our study also shows that this newly developed attenuated vaccine candidate provides excellent immunogenicity, is safe, and has the potential to control DTMUV infections in ducks.

Here, we report the first outbreak of duck plague (DP) confirmed in 4 tissue samples that were collected since August 2012 from the northwestern region of Shandong province, China. Among these, 3 were collected from commercial Jin-ding variety layer ducks and one from Cherry Valley meat-breeding ducks. Using a combination of bioinformation analysis and Dot blot technique, a gene, designated hereafter as the duck enteritis virus (DEV) UL31 gene (GenBank accession number EF643559), was identified from the DEV CHv genomic library. We report here the identification, characterization and culture of a Gram-negative to Gram-variable, rod-shaped, non-spore-forming anaerobic bacterium (strain FM1025(T)) isolated from the caecum of a duck. We conducted a study to evaluate the effects of intramuscular fat levels on the sensory characteristics of duck breast meat. Combining duck genotypes (Muscovy, Pekin, and their crossbreed hinny and mule ducks) and feeding levels (overfeeding between 12 and 14 wk of age vs. ad libitum feeding) enabled us to obtain a wide range of lipid levels in breast muscle. A captive white-winged wood duck (Cairina scutulata) with bilateral epistaxis and anemia (packed cell volume = 16%) was treated with injectable and oral vitamin K1 and transfused with 40 ml whole blood. The immunosuppressive effect of chronic glucocorticoid treatment on 2[125I]iodomelatonin binding in the duck thymus was studied.
