Antenatal Diagnosis of a Partial Atrioventricular Canal with Ebstein's Anomaly.

The simultaneous occurrence of an atrioventricular canal defect (AVCD) and Ebstein's anomaly is extremely rare, occurring in less than 0.5% of all patients with AVCD. Only 22 cases are described in the literature. This patient's antenatal diagnosis of both Ebstein's anomaly and partial AVCD was made at 25 weeks of gestation. The delivery was organized in a tertiary center. The initial neonatal course was difficult but with adequate treatment, a rapid improvement allowed for a gap of almost 2 years before a complete surgical repair including a cone tricuspid plasty. To our knowledge, this is th

[Ebstein's anomaly : from fetal diagnosis to surgical treatment].

Ebstein's anomaly is a rare and complex congenital heart disease involving abnormal embryological development of the tricuspid valve. Its exact prevalence remains unknown given the under-diagnosis of minor forms and the broad clinical spectrum of this pathology resulting from the highly variable tricuspid morphology. Echocardiography plays an important role in diagnosis, assessment and prognostic evaluation of this condition. We present the case of a 6-year-old boy born from a twin pregnancy with a severe neonatal EA diagnosed by ultrasound at 29 weeks of gestation and we discuss the managemen

Ebstein's Anomaly of the Tricuspid Valve: an Overview of Pathology and Management.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Ebstein's anomaly (EA) is a rare, but complex form of congenital heart disease consisting of a right ventricular myopathy and morphologic tricuspid valve disease leading to a high incidence of right ventricular dysfunction and arrhythmias. This review offers an updated overview of the current understanding and management of patients with EA with a focus on the adult population. RECENT FINDINGS: Increased understanding of anatomic accessory atrioventricular pathways in EA has resulted in an improvement in ablation techniques and long-term freedom of atrial arrhythmia recurre

Surgical Repair of Ebstein's Anomaly Using a Bicuspidization Approach.

BACKGROUND: Ebstein's anomaly of the tricuspid valve is a rare and heterogeneous form of congenital heart defect. The purpose of this study was to review the surgical experience with Ebstein's anomaly at a single institution. METHODS: This was a retrospective review of 47 patients with Ebstein's anomaly who were previously unrepaired and underwent surgical repair of the tricuspid valve. Our surgical approach repairs the leaflets at the preexisting level and does not attempt to reposition the hinge points at the anatomic annulus. The median age at surgery was 17 years (range, 2-53). Preoperati

Longest Surviving Patient with Ebstein's Anomaly in Indian Subcontinent.

Ebstein's anomaly accounts for 0.3% to 0.7% of all cases of congenital heart disease. The condition is characterized by abnormal tricuspid valve and right ventricle with apical displacement of tricuspid valve leading to atrialization of right ventricle. There have been case reports of patients surviving up to ninth decade. It is unusual for these patients to be asymptomatic in adulthood for long duration. We describe a patient with Ebstein's anomaly in the ninth decade with coronary artery disease.

Single-stage, three-fold repair for Ebstein's anomaly.

OBJECTIVES: Favourable outcomes in the repair of Ebstein's anomaly are predicated on tricuspid valve competence, right ventricular function and presence of arrhythmia. We report our experience with a single-stage, three-fold repair of Ebstein's anomaly, namely, cone reconstruction of the tricuspid valve supplemented by bidirectional cavopulmonary anastomosis and right atrial electrocautery maze. METHODS: From 2010 to 2014, 37 consecutive patients with Ebstein's anomaly, median age 17.3 (9.1-56.2) years, underwent this single-stage, three-fold surgical procedure. The principal elements of the

Ebstein's Anomaly of the Tricuspid Valve in the Fetus - A Multicenter Experience.

Purpose To assess the spectrum of associated anomalies, the intrauterine course, the outcome and possible prognostic markers in prenatally diagnosed Ebstein's anomaly (EA). Materials and Methods All cases of EA diagnosed over a period of 13 years with a minimum follow-up of 1 year were retrospectively collected in 4 tertiary referral centers in Germany. Results In the study period 76 cases of EA were prenatally diagnosed. The mean gestational age at diagnosis was 25.0 weeks (range: 13 - 35). 41 (53.9 %) cases were isolated and 35 (46.1 %) had other cardiac and/or extracardiac anomalies. 19 (25

Postpartum Deterioration of Hemodynamics in a Case of Uncorrected Ebstein's Anomaly.

Ebstein's anomaly is a rare congenital cardiac malformation that is characterized by abnormalities of the tricuspid valve and right ventricle. Pregnancy is usually well tolerated unless cyanosis or arrhythmia develops. We report a case with Ebstein's anomaly, whose condition was asymptomatic before pregnancy but remarkably deteriorated down during the postpartum period, even though a successful pregnancy and cardiac surgery were achieved. Women with Ebstein's anomaly should be carefully assessed and may need to be advised to have corrective surgery prior to pregnancy even if they were asymptom

Ebstein's anomaly in a child with osteogenesis imperfecta type I.

Cardiovascular involvement is relatively rare in osteogenesis imperfecta and has a predilection for left-sided cardiac valves. We report a 5 years old female child affected by osteogenesis imperfecta type I in which an asymptomatic mild form of Ebstein's anomaly, a congenital tricuspid malformation, was diagnosed during routinely investigation. The association of these two relatively rare entities could provide new insight to better understand the pathogenesis of cardiac involvement in osteogenesis imperfecta.

A combination of right ventricular hypertrabeculation/noncompaction and Ebstein's anomaly.

A 35-year-old man admitted with iterative extremities edema for three months and mild chest complaint associated with activity without chest distress for five days. He underwent an initial 2DE that did not confirm HVM/NVM and 3DE that strengthened the diagnosis of HVM/NVM. The limitations of 2DE may lead to misinterpretation of prominent trabeculations as "false tendons," and may also lead to underestimation of the severity of HVM/NVM. In contrast to 2DE, 3DE provides for pyramid-shaped datasets that encompass the entire right ventricular. Specifically, right ventricular can be sectioned in us

[Anesthetic management for repair of Ebstein's anomaly with WPW syndrome].

Ebstein's anomaly is a rare congenital malformation of the tricuspid valve, often associated with Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome. We report the perioperative management of 3 patients (a 34-year-old man, a 5-month-old boy and a 5-year-old girl) with Ebstein's anomaly associated with WPW syndrome. Anesthetic managements for valvuloplasty of the tricuspid valve and ablation of accessory pathway in 3 patients were successfully accomplished with a combination of fentanyl, sevoflurane, and midazolam. The management of Ebstein's anomaly is based on its severity. The major concerns with anesthes
