Ciprofloxacin is one of the newer 4-quinolones. It combines a high antibacterial activity and a broad spectrum with favourable pharmacokinetic properties. Pulp fibroblasts were isolated from human deciduous and supernumerary teeth and cultured in vitro. The platelet element content was determined by semiquantitative X-ray microanalysis in 6 patients with chronic renal failure. The patients showed a different degree of thrombocytopathy expressed by impaired adhesiveness, epinephrine-induced aggregation and platelet factor 3 availability. Maternal and cord blood samples were collected in 60 cases with or without rupture of membranes before and at term. Serum concentrations of calcium, copper, iron and zinc were determined by proton-induced X-ray emission. Maternal and cord serum ceruloplasmin and maternal hemoglobin were also determined. Using this case report, we sought evidence that silicone oil may infiltrate the subarachnoidal space. Vitrectomy combined with silicone oil implantation was performed on the right eye of a 72-year-old woman. The silicone oil was removed 2 months later, because the patient had developed elevated intraocular pressure. The blind and painful eye was subsequently enucleated.
