Funciones ejecutivas y regulación emocional en obesidad y trastornos alimentarios.

Introduction: eating disorders (ED) such as anorexia nervosa (AN) or bulimia nervosa (BN), as well as obesity (OB), are related to emotional and neuropsychological impairments on measures of cognitive flexibility, central coherence or decision making. However, little is known about the association among emotional regulation, neuropsychological variables and affect. Objectives: to analyze whether neuropsychological and affect variables can predict emotional regulation in ED and in OB. Methods: thirty females with restricting ED (restricting AN) were assessed, 18 with purging ED (purging AN and

Readability and Linguistic Characteristics of Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias Prevention, Symptom, and Treatment Information from Generative Artificial Intelligence Chatbots.

PURPOSE: To examine the readability and linguistic characteristics of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) prevention, symptom, and treatment information from generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) chatbots. METHOD: We analyzed 66 outputs from free-to-use GenAI chatbots. We extracted readability (word count, Fleisch Reading Ease, and Fleisch-Kincaid Grade Level) and linguistic scores (analytical thinking, clout, authenticity, and emotional tone) using Microsoft Word and the Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count software. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t tests, an

Russell-Silver syndrome and nonverbal learning disability: a case study.

Russell-Silver Syndrome (RSS) is a rare genetic developmental disorder characterized by prenatal and postnatal growth delays and other physical abnormalities. Neuropsychological screening was completed with LP, a 20-year-old college male diagnosed at one year of age with Russell-Silver Syndrome. LP's history and test findings yielded a profile consistent with a nonverbal learning disability, with significantly higher verbal compared to nonverbal intelligence, deficient visual-spatial memory, fine motor coordination and motor planning problems, relatively greater difficulty in math compared to

Psychiatric aspects of narcolepsy.

Among twenty patients with narcolepsy intelligence was normal and no characteristic personality or psychopathology was found. A family history of psychiatric disorder was present in five and a past personal history in ten. Eight had a current psychiatric disorder and twelve either a current or past psychiatric disorder. Chronic sexual disorder was present in eleven. Arousal appeared to be the mechanism by which emotions precipitated symptoms. Ten patients were found to have had difficulties at work, in marriage or in social life.

No evidence that hormonal contraceptive use or circulating sex steroids predict complex emotion recognition.

Relatively little is known about the effects of endogenous and exogenous steroid hormones on ecologically relevant behavioral and cognitive phenotypes in women, such as emotion recognition, despite the widespread use of steroid hormone-altering hormonal contraceptives (HCs). Though some previous studies have examined the effect of HC use, estradiol, progesterone, and testosterone on emotion recognition in women, they have been limited by cross-sectional designs, small sample sizes (total n < 100), and compromised statistical power to detect significant effects. Using data from two test session

Emotion dysregulation and adolescent psychopathology: a prospective study.

BACKGROUND: Emotion regulation deficits have been consistently linked to psychopathology in cross-sectional studies. However, the direction of the relationship between emotion regulation and psychopathology is unclear. This study examined the longitudinal and reciprocal relationships between emotion regulation deficits and psychopathology in adolescents. METHODS: Emotion dysregulation and symptomatology (depression, anxiety, aggressive behavior, and eating pathology) were assessed in a large, diverse sample of adolescents (N=1065) at two time points separated by seven months. Structural equat

An Efficient System for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy: A Pilot Study.

In this paper, we describe an actuator-based EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) virtual assistant system that can be used for the treatment of participants with traumatic memories. EMDR is a psychological therapy designed to treat emotional distress caused by a traumatic event from the past, most frequently in post-traumatic stress disorder treatment. We implemented a system based on video, tactile, and audio actuators which includes an artificial intelligence chatbot, making the system capable of acting autonomously. We tested the system on a sample of 31 participants. Our r

AI as a partner in assessment: generating situational judgment tests with large language models.

Situational Judgment Tests (SJTs) are important tools for evaluating individual abilities by presenting specific scenarios and assessing the responses. This study explores the potential of Large Language Models (LLMs) in developing SJTs, with emotional regulation as an example. We proposed and evaluated two approaches using ERNIE 4.0, an advanced Chinese LLM: generating new items from scratch (Approach 1) and adapting items from existing examples (Approach 2). The quality of generated items was assessed through expert evaluations and empirical testing with 93 psychology undergraduates and 184

Empowering people with intellectual disabilities using integrated deep learning architecture driven enhanced text-based emotion classification.

Emotion recognition is an important research field including psychology, healthcare, and human-computer interaction (HCI). However, conventional techniques mainly rely on textual analysis and facial expressions, and they also have potential flaws, making them unreliable. Textual language is the most common carrier of human emotions and its analysis relies on the available data. In natural language processing (NLP), textual emotion recognition (TER) has become a significant area of research due to its essential commercial and academic applications. With the growth of deep learning (DL) technolo

Mental well-being, emotional-cognitive processing, and attention skills in individuals with cluttering.

BACKGROUND: Cluttering is a fluency disorder marked by a rapid and irregular speech rate and articulation difficulties such as "slurred" speech and sound omissions. These speech disruptions reduce intelligibility and negatively impact communication. Treatment for individuals with cluttering typically focuses on improving their speech clarity and fluency. In contrast, while addressing speech disruptions, treatment for stuttering, a related fluency disorder, extends to include psychological and emotional aspects. This broader approach is based on research linking stuttering to mental health indi

Social-emotional problems of children with mild intellectual disabilities having parents with mental health concerns: A quantitative comparison study.

INTRODUCTION: Children of parents with mental health concerns are at-risk for social-emotional problems. In this study, we assessed whether children with a mild intellectual disability and parents with mental health concerns are particularly at-risk. METHOD: Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) reports of children with a mild intellectual disability (N = 55) and their parents with mental health concerns (N = 45) were compared to two comparison groups. The first group included children with average intelligence (N = 13) and their parents with mental health concerns (N = 56), the seco

Biological and environmental initial conditions shape the trajectories of cognitive and social-emotional development across the first years of life.

Human development is thought to evolve from the dynamic interchange of biological dispositions and environmental provisions; yet the effects of specific biological and environmental birth conditions on the trajectories of cognitive and social-emotional growth have rarely been studied. We observed 126 children at six time-points from birth to 5 years. Intelligence, maternal sensitivity, and child social engagement were repeatedly tested. Effects of neonatal vagal tone (VT) and maternal postpartum depressive symptoms on growth-rates were assessed. Cognitive development showed a substantial growt

Intracarotid amobarbital testing for language and memory dominance in children.

The intracarotid amobarbital procedure (IAP) was attempted in 22 pediatric epilepsy surgery candidates, ages 5-12 years old. With extra pre-test teaching and emotional preparation, adjusted amobarbital dosage for younger patients, and simplified test items tailored to the child's abilities, language and memory testing were accomplished after at least one injection for 19 (86%) of patients. Language dominance was clarified in 11 children overall (50% of patients), in all of the children who had bilateral testing and at least borderline intelligence (IQ > 70), and in 57% of the children with mil

Awareness of consequences in agenesis of the corpus callosum: Semantic analysis of responses.

OBJECTIVE: Agenesis of the corpus callosum (AgCC) in individuals with general intelligence within the normal range results in a syndrome of mild to moderate deficiencies in cognitive, emotional, and social functioning that are still being explored. Anecdotal accounts from families suggest that these cognitive and psychosocial deficiencies affect the ability of these individuals to anticipate the consequences of their decisions and behaviors. This research was designed to clarify the nature of social and emotional cognition in AgCC with respect to imagination of the consequences of decisions by

Exploring the behavioral and cognitive phenotype of KBG syndrome.

KBG syndrome is a neurodevelopmental disorder, caused by dominant mutations in ANKRD11, that is characterized by developmental delay/intellectual disability, mild craniofacial dysmorphisms, and short stature. Behavior and cognition have hardly been studied, but anecdotal evidence suggests higher frequencies of ADHD-symptoms and social-emotional impairments. In this study, the behavioral and cognitive profile of KBG syndrome will be investigated in order to examine if and how cognitive deficits contribute to behavioral difficulties. A total of 18 patients with KBG syndrome and a control group c
