In eight patients with Mediterranean spotted fever we evaluated the yield of the direct immunofluorescence technique against rickettsial antigens for the early laboratory diagnosis of the disease. Frozen sections of biopsy specimens of the initial lesion (tache noire) taken on the admission day were processed by a fluorescent conjugate reactive against Rickettsia conorii. The phytohaemagglutinin (PHA) response of lymphocytes from seven patients with natural rubella infection was investigated during the acute, early and late convalescence stages of disease. BACKGROUND: Cutaneous adverse drug reactions (CADRs) occur in 2-5% of inpatients, primarily due to delayed (T-cell-mediated) reactions, such as maculopapular exanthemas (MPEs). The lymphocyte transformation test (LTT) detects drug-specific T-cell responses with varied sensitivity. Patch testing may complement LTT, although in CADRs, its positivity could be low.
