Interaction Between Sacubitril and Valsartan in Preventing Heart Failure Induced by Aortic Valve Insufficiency in Rats.

BACKGROUND: Synergistic interactions between neprilysin inhibition (NEPi) with sacubitril and angiotensin receptor type1 blockade (ARB) with valsartan have been implicated in improvement of left ventricular (LV) contractility, relaxation, exercise tolerance, and fibrosis in preexisting heart failure (HF) induced by aortic valve insufficiency (AVI). It is not known whether this pharmacologic synergy can prevent cardiovascular pathology in a similar AVI model. Our aim was to investigate the pharmacology of sacubitril/valsartan in an experimental setting with therapy beginning immediately after c…

[Medical rehabilitation of children with bronchial asthma].

Medical rehabilitation of children suffering from bronchial asthma is based on the complex use of natural therapeutic factors, drug, non-drug therapy and other methods in order to achieve control over the disease and long-term remission. The use of non-drug technologies is necessary taking into account the pathogenesis of the bronchial asthma development and is aimed at relieving bronchospasm, reducing the activity of allergic inflammation in the bronchi, improving their drainage function, strengthening the respiratory muscles and increasing exercise tolerance. When carrying out rehabilitation…

Exercise impairment in patients with pectus excavatum? A scoping review of evidence and role of arterial content change during effort.

This scoping review describes cardiopulmonary fitness in non-operated patients with pectus excavatum and maps the reporting of hemoglobin and arterial oxygen content during exercise. Four databases (PubMed, ScienceDirect, CINAHL, and SPORTDiscus) were searched from inception to February 15th, 2025. Cross-sectional studies, cohort studies, and randomized controlled trials reporting exercise capacity or exercise testing outcomes were included. Among 612 identified records, 31 studies involving 2937 patients met all eligibility criteria. Seventeen studies reported maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) a

Exercise recommendations for patients with Marfan syndrome: an updated review.

Marfan syndrome (MFS) is a genetic connective tissue disorder which is inherited in an autosomal dominant manner. It is a multisystem disorder affecting the skeletal, ocular, pulmonary and cardiovascular systems. The cardiovascular complications such as aortic root dilatation and aortic dissection represent the most life-threatening of these and are the major causes of a reduced life-expectancy in Marfan patients compared to the general population. While exercise offers the general population several health benefits, particularly in reducing cardiovascular risks, in MFS it has long been consid

The Fontan Udenafil Exercise Longitudinal Trial: Subgroup Analysis.

The Pediatric Heart Network's Fontan Udenafil Exercise Longitudinal (FUEL) Trial (Mezzion Pharma Co. Ltd., NCT02741115) demonstrated improvements in some measures of exercise capacity and in the myocardial performance index following 6 months of treatment with udenafil (87.5 mg twice daily). In this post hoc analysis, we evaluate whether subgroups within the population experienced a differential effect on exercise performance in response to treatment. The effect of udenafil on exercise was evaluated within subgroups defined by baseline characteristics, including peak oxygen consumption (VO2),

Diaphragm abnormalities in heart failure and aging: mechanisms and integration of cardiovascular and respiratory pathophysiology.

Inspiratory function is essential for alveolar ventilation and expulsive behaviors that promote airway clearance (e.g., coughing and sneezing). Current evidence demonstrates that inspiratory dysfunction occurs during healthy aging and is accentuated by chronic heart failure (CHF). This inspiratory dysfunction contributes to key aspects of CHF and aging cardiovascular and pulmonary pathophysiology including: (1) impaired airway clearance and predisposition to pneumonia; (2) inability to sustain ventilation during physical activity; (3) shallow breathing pattern that limits alveolar ventilation

Thromboxane signalling links immune activation to enhanced glucose uptake in skeletal muscle.

AIMS/HYPOTHESIS: Exercise elicits a spectrum of metabolic and inflammatory responses that are crucial for skeletal muscle adaptation and overall health, particularly in the context of metabolic diseases, yet the contribution of prostanoid signalling to these processes remains unclear. We hypothesised that exercise-induced thromboxane production enhances skeletal muscle glucose uptake and improves whole-body glucose control. METHODS: Plasma prostanoids were quantified in men and women with normal glucose tolerance or type 2 diabetes before, immediately after and 3 h after a single bout of exer

Captopril in primary pulmonary hypertension.

Seven women with primary pulmonary hypertension underwent hemodynamic evaluation, at rest and during exercise, before and after the oral administration of captopril. Dose-response curves were generated for the 25-, 50- and 100-mg doses. Captopril significantly reduced systemic blood pressure and systemic vascular resistance; these effects persisted at submaximal levels of exercise. Captopril did not alter pulmonary artery pressure or resistance, cardiac output or stroke volume at rest or during exercise. Exercise tolerance did not improve. Four of the patients also received captopril chronical…

Effects of Vitamin E Intake and Voluntary Wheel Running on Whole-Body and Skeletal Muscle Metabolism in Ovariectomized Mice.

Background/Objectives: Ovariectomized rodents experience metabolic dysfunction in whole-body and skeletal muscle. A disrupted balance between oxidative stress and antioxidants might exacerbate metabolic dysfunction in ovariectomized rodents. Dietary antioxidants, such as vitamin E intake, before or during exercise would be beneficial by mitigating the exercise-induced increase in oxidative stress in ovariectomized rodents. The purpose of the current study was to investigate the potential effect of vitamin E intake combined with voluntary exercise on whole-body and skeletal muscle metabolism in
