PURPOSE: Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) can be a fatal complication of intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) for acute ischemic stroke. An early coagulopathy can develop after IVT, in relation to a significant fibrinogen depletion, increasing the risk of ICH. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed at defining the role of fibrinogen depletion after IVT on the risk of ICH after IVT.

Streptococcus agalactiae is a leading cause of bacterial sepsis and meningitis in neonates. Elevated levels of fibrin(ogen) degradation products (FDP) have been detected in second-trimester amniotic fluid in association with open neural tube defects (NTD'S) in the fetus. The FDP assay has been proposed for the prenatal diagnosis of NTD's and in this paper is compared with the established use of the alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) assay. FDP and AFP levels were measured in 132 amniotic fluid samples, including 20 NTD cases. However, interactions with bacterial protein toxins, the main virulence factors of many medically relevant bacteria and causative agents of life-threatening diseases, have not been described so far.
