We report the fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG - PET/CT) findings in an 11-month-old boy with suspected milk protein allergy, presented to the hospital with 2-month history of fever of unknown origin and failure to thrive. It showed FDG avid lymphadenopathy above and below the diaphragm and splenic focus, which could represent diffuse inflammatory process or lymphoma. Subsequent jejunal biopsy showed non-necrotizing granulomas.

BACKGROUND: Surgical resection of lung cancer remains the treatment of choice in appropriately staged disease, but conventional imaging techniques have limitations. Positron emission tomography (PET) may improve staging accuracy.
METHODS: We studied whole body and localized thoracic PET in staging lung cancer. Standardized uptake value was calculated for the primary lesion. Ninety-seven patients under consideration for surgical resection were included. PET, computed tomography, and clinical staging were compared to stage at operation, biopsy, or final outcome. Mean follow up was 17.5 months.

To address the challenge of uneven distribution of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) within the membrane in oil-water separation, this study demonstrates a novel copper (II) benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylate (CuBTC) embedded fluorinated composite membrane fabricated through high internal phase emulsion (HIPE) templating. Atomic fluorine F (2P3/2) is known to form complexes with perhalogenated solvents like carbon tetrachloride or chlorofluorocarbons. Here these complexes are studied at a very high ab initio level employing CCSD(T) theory. The results show that the fluorine atom undergoes a localized three-electron bonding interaction with the halogen lone pairs, resulting in a doubly occupied σ-type orbital and a half-filled σ*-type orbital, giving a bond order of one-half. This work demonstrates the use of jute stick extract as a reducing and stabilizing agent for the synthesis of spherical gold nanoparticles (AuNPs).
