Sturge-Weber syndrome (SWS) or encephalotrigeminal angiomatosis is a rare congenital disorder that affects the skin, brain, and eye. It is characterized by facial port-wine stains, leptomeningeal angiomas, and glaucoma. SWS can also cause neurological complications, such as seizures, headaches, cognitive impairment, and stroke. Antiepileptic drugs that are used to treat seizures associated with SWS lead to the development of gingival hyperplasia which requires non-surgical and/or surgical dental treatment. The purpose of this case report and narrative review is to provide an overview of the et

INTRODUCTION: A child's oral health impacts their development and quality of life. Children who live with fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) face barriers to dental care combined with poorer oral health outcomes. However, how this affects their oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) is largely unknown. Thus, the aim of this study is to examine the OHRQoL of children living with FASD.
METHODS: This cross-sectional survey used the Child Oral Health Impact Profile-Short Form-19 (COHIP-SF-19) to evaluate the OHRQoL quality of life of children (aged 8 to 15) living with FASD, compared to

A hamartoma is a benign proliferation of typical mature cells specific to a particular anatomical site. In the oral cavity, they may occur as isolated cases or be associated with genetic syndromes. Oral-facial-digital syndrome type VI is a rare genetic disorder with an estimated incidence of one in 50,000-250,000 newborns. Here, we report a case of a 2-year-old boy diagnosed with oral-facial-digital syndrome type VI who was referred for evaluation of a bilateral and normochromic to slightly pinkish nodule on the lateral surface of the tongue. Clinically, the child presented hypotonia, low visu

The aim of this study is to report a case in which a patient with nephrotic syndrome underwent surgery to remove fibrous gum tissue (ulectomy). An 8-year-old patient, diagnosed with early onset nephrotic syndrome due to a mutation in the NUP107 gene, had received a kidney transplant and was therefore taking various medications, including immunosuppressants. On oral examination, the patient was found to have a fibrous gingiva that was preventing the eruption of the upper permanent central incisors. A ulectomy was performed and the gingival tissue was sent for histopathological analysis, which s
