Nevus Depigmentosus Treated with Suction Blister Grafting: Follow-up After 10 Years.

Nevus depigmentosus is a congenital hypomelanotic condition for which no effective treatments are available. The hypopigmentation is permanent and enlarges in proportion with growth in the person. Here, I report a patient of nevus depigmentosus on whom we performed suction blister grafting and the resultant pigmentation was satisfactory even at a follow-up after 10 years.

Report of a case of radiation-induced new-onset vitiligo with collective review of cases in the literature of radiation-related vitiligo.

Radiation-induced hypopigmentation consistent vitiligo has been reported in a few case reports. We report herewith a case of vitiligo at the site of radiation delivery after a lag of several months in a patient with preexisting hypothyroidism without a previous or family history of vitiligo, and review the cases reported in the literature collectively.

Phylloid terminal hair nevus: A unique clinical entity.

We present a case of an otherwise healthy infant with a localized patch of phylloid hypopigmentation bordered by terminal hairs on the back. We believe that this is a unique clinical entity and propose the term "phylloid terminal hair nevus." We believe that this is a localized form of phylloid hypomelanosis that is not associated with extracutaneous abnormalities.

A mutation in the silver gene leads to defects in melanosome biogenesis and alterations in the visual system in the zebrafish mutant fading vision.

Forward genetic screens have been instrumental in defining molecular components of visual function. The zebrafish mutant fading vision (fdv) has been identified in such a screen due to defects in vision accompanied by hypopigmentation in the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) and body melanocytes. The RPE forms the outer most layer of the retina, and its function is essential for vision. In fdv mutant larvae, the outer segments of photoreceptors are strongly reduced in length or absent due to defects in RPE cells. Ultrastructural analysis of RPE cells reveals dramatic cellular changes such as an…

Pityriasis versicolor alba.

Pityriasis versicolor alba is a hypopigmented or depigmented variant of pityriasis versicolor characterized by maculous, partly pityriasiform, scaly depigmented lesions occurring particularly in seborrhoeic areas. Long-persisting hypopigmentation after healing of the pityriasis versicolor was first described by Gudden in 1853. Hypopigmentation and depigmentation were later differentiated as an independent variant of the disease. In 1848, Eichstedt recognized the pathogen-related character of pityriasis versicolor in its hyperpigmented form. Today it is generally accepted that the disease is ca…

Review of dermoscopic features in hypopigmentary disorders.

Dermoscopy has seen increased use in the diagnosis of hypopigmentary disorders. As a quick and effective adjunct to the clinician's toolbox, dermoscopy offers the opportunity to differentiate between hypopigmentary lesions that ostensibly present with clinically similar morphology on the macroscopic scale. The focus of this article is to review the various dermoscopic signs and patterns that have been elucidated for these disorders.

Hot spots for clinical signs of disease activity in vitiligo.

There is evidence of a link between disease activity in vitiligo and clinical visible signs such as confetti-like depigmentation, Koebner phenomenon and hypochromic areas/borders. Despite its established value, dermatologists and researchers continue to have a limited understanding of the vitiligo disease activity signs. The primary goal of this study was to identify 'hot spots' of disease activity signs in vitiligo patients in order to improve detection in clinical practice. Furthermore, the prevalence, clinical profiles of predisposed patients, interrelationship between the disease activity

Rhododendrol-induced leukoderma update II: Pathophysiology, mechanisms, risk evaluation, and possible mechanism-based treatments in comparison with vitiligo.

A small proportion of individuals utilizing cosmetics containing rhododendrol developed leukoderma with various pathological conditions, in some cases indistinguishable from vitiligo. In this review, we investigate and evaluate the major considerations for developing rhododendrol-induced leukoderma based on data from original or review articles published in the literature to provide a wide range of information regarding the pathophysiology, mechanisms, risk evaluation, and possible mechanism-based treatments. We compile and discuss the latest information, including data related to the cytotoxi
