The Children, Intimate Relationships, and Conflictual Life Events (CIRCLE) interview for simultaneous measurement of intimate partner and parent to child aggression.

Despite substantial rates of parent to child aggression (PCA) and intimate partner aggression (IPA) co-occurrence within families, the co-occurrence of PCA and IPA within incidents of aggression has not previously been examined. To do so, we developed the Children, Intimate Relationships, and Conflictual Life Events (CIRCLE) interview to simultaneously measure incidents of psychological and physical PCA and IPA. The CIRCLE interview was administered quarterly for approximately 1 year to 109 women and 94 men from 111 couples with a first born child approximately 32 months of age at study initia

The quality-of-life impact of Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) on patients' lives: an interpretative descriptive qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Much has been documented about the physical sequelae of Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN). While less documented, it is recognized that patients can have long-lasting psychological sequelae. There is a lack of qualitative research on the quality of life (QoL) experiences of adults who have been diagnosed with SJS/TEN. OBJECTIVES: To explore the experiences of adults who had SJS/TEN and how these experiences relate to their QoL. METHODS: Using an interpretative descriptive qualitative study, a purposive sample of 18 adults with SJS/TEN were interv

Targeting vascular leakage in lung inflammation.

UNLABELLED: Introduction: Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media (CSOM) significantly impacts auditory functions and overall quality of life. Although tympanoplasty is recognized for its auditory benefits, its broader psychological impacts in CSOM patients remain underexplored. Method: In this sequential explanatory mixed-methods study, 100 adult CSOM patients undergoing tympanoplasty were evaluated from January 2022 to December 2023. The study integrated quantitative assessments (Pure-Tone Audiometry, Speech Audiometry, COMOT-15, HADS) and qualitative data from semi-structured interviews. Results:

Survey data were collected from 350 competitive athletes in Changsha, China, between

The Body I Live in. Perceptions and Meanings of Body Dissatisfaction in Young Transgender Adults: A Qualitative Study.

Body dissatisfaction in individuals with Gender Incongruence (GI) represents a primary source of suffering. This work aims to explore experiences related to body dissatisfaction and investigate the issues associated with living in a body perceived as incongruent for individuals with GI. Thirty-six individuals, aged between 18 and 30 years old and at stage T0 of hormone treatment, participated in the study. Body dissatisfaction and experiences related to it were investigated using the C

Informing carriers of beta-thalassemia: giving the good news.

This study explored the value of informing beta-thalassaemia carriers of the advantages, as well as the disadvantages of carrier status. Twenty-eight carriers of beta-thalassaemia were interviewed immediately after counselling, and again 2 weeks later. Both interviews included administration of a psychological scale (previously used for cystic fibrosis). Immediately after the first interview the intervention group (n = 18) were informed of the protective effect of the beta-thalassaemia trait against malaria and coronary heart disease. The control group (n = 10) was given the same information a

Long-term neurostructural and psychological effects of war stress in two generations of civilians from the former Yugoslavia.

The long-term neurobiological and psychological effects of war-related stress on civilians remain understudied. This study focuses on survivors of the war in the former Yugoslavia (G1) who now reside in the Czech Republic and on the children of survivors (G2) who were born after the conflict. Participants from G1, G2, and a control group (CG) with no war experience underwent structural MRI, answered a semi-structured interview, and completed psychological questionnaires (PTGI, PCL-5, SWSL, MSPSS, Brief-COPE). Voxel-based morphometry was used to assess brain volume differences. Compared to CG,

Functional gastrointestinal disorders: psychological, social, and somatic features.

BACKGROUND: Psychological, social, and extraintestinal (somatic) disturbances are prominent features of functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGID); little attention, however, has been given to differences in the nature of these disturbances in the various FGID subgroups. AIMS: (1) To determine whether psychological, social, and extraintestinal factors are associated with specific FGID, and/or with the overall severity and extent of FGID disturbance (the number of coexistent FGID subgroups present in any individual); and (2) to determine whether chronic social stressors link gastrointestinal

[Clinical and psychometric findings in spasmodic torticollis].

In a previous study screening for psychopathological symptoms in a sample of 256 patients with spasmodic torticollis had resulted in 27% of patients, whose mean score of the GSI of the SCL-90-R was above the double standard deviation of the control group of normals (Scheidt et al. 1994). In this study the self-reported psychopathology of a subsample of 19 TS patients was controlled for its agreement with a clinical assessment in a psychiatric interview. The results of the study confirm the validity of the SCL-90-R as a screening instrument for psychological distress and psychopathology. Howeve

The fog is lifting; veils of mist come and go: an interpretative phenomenological analysis of the experiences of six women recovering from pathological dissociation.

The aim of this study was to illuminate experiences of the process of recovering from pathological dissociation. The study used data from interviews with six female participants diagnosed with pathological dissociative disturbances. All the women had a history of having been sexually abused. Data were analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). Two main themes emerged in the analysis: social and relational change and self in movement. The themes mirror the interplay in the recovery process that took place both intrapsychically and with regard to the relational interplay betw
