Six hundred thirty-two patients were referred to the Colorectal Clinic from February 1983 to February 1986 for screening with the Pentax 65 cm flexible sigmoidoscope. Forty-nine of these patients (8 percent) had adenomatous polyps. There were 27 males and 22 females. The mean distance examined by the 65 cm flexible sigmoidoscope was 55 cm. Two cases of juvenile gastrointestinal polyposis are described and the literature is reviewed. Despite the benign nature of the individual polyps, the disease has a poor prognosis. Of 13 reported patients, 4 had macrocephaly, and one of the authors' 2 patients had large peripheral intracranial cysts. This appears to be the first reported documentation of the etiology of macrocephaly associated with juvenile polyposis. Major clinical problems are related to severe loss of blood and protein from the gastrointestinal tract.

Extreme intestinal polyposis in pet dogs has not yet been reported in literature. We identified a dog patient who developed numerous intestinal polyps, with the severity resembling human classic familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP), except the jejunum-ileum junction being the most polyp-dense. CONTEXT: Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) progresses to distant metastases in most cases. The most frequent sites for distant metastases are the bones, central nervous system, adrenal glands and liver. Dissemination to the skin, myocardium, thyroid gland and intestine may occur, but is rare.
CASE REPORT: We describe a case of squamous cell carcinoma in the lungs, with metastases in the colon and thyroid, in a 66-year-old female patient. The lesion was unresectable and chemotherapy was started. The patient evolved with intestinal subocclusion, and colonoscopy showed the presence of a polyp.

Recent advances in the field of gastroenterological endoscopy have now embraced endoscopic polypectomy. Experiences at the Royal North Shore Hospital over a period of one year include 42 colonic and three gastric polypectomies. Rectal bleeding was the main presenting feature in the patients with colonic polyps. All colonic polyps were situated between the sigmoid and transverse colon. Eighteen polyps were under 1 cm in size, 15 between 1 and 2 cm and nine over 2 cm. There was one carcinoma detected in each of these groups. Adult intussusception is an uncommon cause of intestinal obstruction and usually indicates an underlying pathological lead point. Jejunal involvement is particularly rare and often presents with nonspecific symptoms, leading to diagnostic delay. We report a 43-year-old woman with features of subacute intestinal obstruction. In a 55-year-old woman with intestinal obstruction and intussusception, an excised segment of distal ileum was shown by light and electron microscopy and immunohistologically to contain an inflammatory fibroid polyp. This rare, usually solid lesion of the gastrointestinal canal should be included in differential diagnosis of small-bowel obstruction and intussusception.
