Six isolates recovered from coffee seeds giving off a potato-like flavour were studied. Gene sequencing (rrs and rpoB) showed they belong to the genus Pantoea. By DNA-DNA hybridization, the isolates constituted a genomic species with less than 17% relatedness to 96 strains representing enterobacterial species. Multilocus sequence analysis (gyrB, rpoB, atpD and infB genes) showed the isolates to represent a discrete species of the genus Pantoea. Nutritional versatility of the novel species was poor. Mercury concentrations were examined in livers of free-ranging mink (Neovison vison) trapped in the lower Great Lakes basin from 1998 to 2006. Perinatal exposure to methylmercury is known to result in severe neurological effects on the developing fetus and infant, including cerebral palsy, mental retardation, and seizures. Males are more susceptible than females to neurological damage from perinatal methylmercury exposures. Preliminary analyses of data and statistics for the hospitalization rates of males for cerebral palsy in the 17 Canadian Areas of Concern in the Great Lakes basin indicate a possible geographic association with locations with elevated mercury from natural or industrial sources.

Microplastic (MPs) contamination in freshwater ecosystems threatens aquatic biodiversity. We investigated MPs ingestion in four sympatric Cultrinae fish species from Dianshan Lake, China, using gastrointestinal tract and stable isotope analyses. MPs were widespread, but abundance was low (1.25 ± 2.36 items/ind.). This study aimed to first detect and histopathologically confirm the Anguillicolacrassus parasite in European eel (Anguilla anguilla) from Bafa Lake in the Aegean region of Türkiye. As a result of external and internal parasitological examinations performed on 22 individuals with a weight of 42.08-1264.54 g and a length of 31.80-85.30 cm, the presence of parasites was detected.
