The authors have observed 10 patients with opisthorchiasic cysts of the liver. These cysts are multiple and disposed mainly in the left lobe of the liver. Sonography and laparotomy are expedient methods for diagnosis of the disease. Operations were performed on 7 patients and gave good immediate and long-term results.

A case of a 61-years-old man, diabetic, drinking systematically, with primary liver actinomycosis is presented. The clinical course was that of septic cholangiohepatitis leading to liver and renal failure and death of infectious-toxic shock. The diagnosis was proved at autopsy. Multiple abscess cavities were found in the liver with the characteristic destructive-infiltrative liver changes and the pathognomonic actinomycotic drusen in the pus. The rarity of the disease is pointed out and an information about the cases of abdominal actinomycosis published in Bulgaria is presented.

The authors present hepatic resections of surgical dpt. of Medical Centre Slavonski Brod, in the period from 1983-1988. 14 anatomic hepatic resections were performed, as follows: two right lobectomies, five left lobectomies and seven segmental hepatic resections. Neddle biopsies of the liver were performed in 121 cases of sarcoidosis. Granulomas compatible with sarcoidosis were seen in 24 percent of the cases. Liver function tests (serum alkaline phosphatase, serum aspartate aminotransferase, serum alanine aminotransferase, and bromsulphthalein clearance test) were performed on 325 patients with sarcoidosis and on 132 with non-sarcoid erythema nodosum (EN). The authors personally studied 138 patients with liver granulomas: seventy-five (54%) had sarcoidosis, twenty-six (19%) had primary biliary cirrhosis, twenty-three (17%) had miscellaneous recognizable disorders and fourteen (10%) were undiagnosed. The modes of presentation, the clinical, biochemical and radiological features are compared, and the course of each disease is followed.
