Reliability of noninvasive hyperspectral tongue diagnosis for menstrual diseases using machine learning method.

The outward appearance of human tongue can reflect changes in blood circulation caused by pathological states, and it has been used as an assisted method for clinical diseases diagnosis for thousands of years in China. The purpose of this study is to observe the changes in the tongue of patients with menstrual-related diseases in hyperspectral imaging and to explore the value of hyperspectral tongue imaging combining with machine learning algorithm (HSI-ML) in the diagnosis of menstrual diseases (MD). Hyperspectral tongue images are collected from 429 patients with five different kinds of MD a

The impact of SARS-COV-2 infection on menstruation.

BACKGROUND: Recent study has demonstrated that the GnRH system in patients with post-COVID syndrome may be influenced by SARS-CoV-2. Influence of medical conditions and lifestyle factors on the menstrual cycle.

BACKGROUND: Few studies have described medical and lifestyle factors associated with various menstrual cycle characteristics. METHODS: We analyzed cross-sectional data collected from 3941 premenopausal women from Iowa or North Carolina participating in the Agricultural Health Study between 1994 and 1996. Eligible women were age 21-40, not taking oral contraceptives, and not currently pregnant or breast feeding. We examined four menstrual cycle patterns: short cycles (24 days or less), long cycles (36 days or more), irregular cycles, and intermenstrual bleeding. RESULTS: Long and irregular cy

Prevalene of perimenstrual symptoms.

The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of perimenstrual symptoms (PMS) in a free-living population of US women and to determine if prevalence estimates varied with parity, contraceptive status, characteristics of the menstrual cycle, and selected demographic variables. We identified all households from a census listing for five southeastern city neighborhoods that offered variation in racial composition and socioeconomic status. We ascertained all households in which there was one nonpregnant woman between the ages of 18 and 35 years per household. Of the 241 eligible women,

Clinical experience with ethinyl estradiol and d-norgestrel as an oral contraceptive.

One hundred eighty-one women received 30 mug of ethinyl estradiol plus 150 mug of d-norgestrel as an oral contraceptive for 21 days and then received no tablets for the next seven days for a total of 1,488 cycles. Menstruation lasted three to five days in 93.2% of the cycles, and it began three to five days after the last day of medication in 79.1%. The menstrual flow was moderate in 87%. Breakthrough bleeding occurred in 2.0% of treatment cycles, spotting in 0.1%

Dysmenorrhea, intermenstrual bleeding, menstrual flow volume changes, and irregularities following COVID-19 vaccination and the association with vaccine skepticism: A retrospective observational study.

BACKGROUND: COVID-19 vaccines have provided fertile ground for research, especially with the unprecedented spread of misinformation about this disease and its vaccines. Among women, one of the most frequently reported side effects of the vaccine has been menstrual disturbance. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the perceived impact of COVID-19 vaccines on the menstrual cycle. In addition, the research seeks to identify factors that could predispose certain individuals to experience these effects, thereby contributing to a deeper understanding of the interplay between vaccines and menstrual health. Fundal contour of the uterine cavity in the new syndrome of minor müllerian anomalies and oligomenorrhea. A prospective controlled study.

A prospective, controlled, and blinded study was instituted (1) to demonstrate the relationship found previously between mild müllerian anomalies and oligomenorrhea or amenorrhea in another population of infertile or low-fertility women, (2) to substantiate and define the degree of uterine anomaly in patients with this new syndrome, and (3) to demonstrate that fundal anomalies in the patients are not secondary to mechanical trauma. Twenty consecutive patients with oligomenorrhea or amenorrhea, 44 consecutive infertility patients, and 19 patients who underwent hysterosalpingography (HSG) for ot

Clinical experience with a low dose oral contraceptive containing norethisterone and ethinyl oestradiol.

The results are presented of a clinical investigation of an oral contraceptive containing 0.5 mg norethisterone and 0.035 mg ethinyl oestradiol. The medication was administered orally as a 21-day cyclic regimen in 1,168 women. Duration of use was from 1 to 53 cycles with an overall total of 16,345 cycles. When the preparation was taken as directed, no pregnancies occurred. Three women conceived during the course of this study; however, these subjects missed 3, 2, and 1 prescribed tablets, respectively, and their pregnancies are thus judged due to patient failure. The overall pregnancy rate was

Menstruation in adolescents with familial Mediterranean fever: attack trigger or dysmenorrhoea? A prospective cross-sectional study.

OBJECTIVES: This study investigated the relationship between menstruation and familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) attacks in adolescents and whether menstrual symptoms indicate true FMF flares or primary dysmenorrhoea (PD) or premenstrual syndrome (PMS). METHODS: This prospective cross-sectional study included 42 adolescents diagnosed with FMF. Patients with comorbidities, secondary dysmenorrhoea or less than 1 year post-menarche were excluded. FMF attacks were classified according to Eurofever/PRINTO criteria, and CRP was measured on the first and 15th days of attacks and menstruation. Partic

Characteristics and health factors influencing menstrual changes after COVID-19 vaccination: A Spanish retrospective observational study in currently menstruating women.

BACKGROUND: There is increasing evidence that menstrual changes (MC) should be considered as an adverse event resulting from COVID-19 vaccination. However, the contributing health factors are still poorly understood. OBJECTIVES: The aim was to analyze the characteristics and factors influencing MC after the administration of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 vaccine. DESIGN & METHODS: A retrospective observational study of currently menstruating women (N = 14,550) in Spain was conducted during the month of December 2021 using an online survey. Among others, general characte

Clinical characteristics and social burden of menstrual migraine in Japan: an online-based cross-sectional questionnaire study.

BACKGROUND: Menstrual migraine (MM) is a distinct and burdensome subtype of migraine; however, comprehensive data on its clinical and social impact among Japanese females remain limited. Therefore, we aimed to clarify the clinical characteristics and social burden of MM in Japan. METHODS: A cross-sectional, population-based web survey was conducted among Japanese females (≥ 18 years) with regular menstruation who were diagnosed with migraine. Participants were classified into MM and non-MM groups. Clinical parameters assessed between MM and non-MM included pain intensity, pain duration, and h

Evaluation of menstrual bleeding patterns: a new proposal for a universal guideline based on the analysis of more than 4500 bleeding diaries.

OBJECTIVE: To develop a universal guideline allowing the comparison of interventions like oral contraceptives and hormone replacement therapy with an impact on menstrual bleeding pattern. METHODS: Literature analysis and cluster analysis of 4612 bleeding diaries. RESULTS: We summarized key definitions needed for the evaluation of menstrual bleeding patterns from the literature. We developed a methodology to systematically evaluate menstrual bleeding patterns that distinguishes between cyclical and continuous hormonal regimens. CONCLUSION: This universal guideline can be applied to all prosp
