Personal, work-related, and user-related burnout among caregivers in long-term care facilities for older adults in Chile: The role of professional quality of life.

This study examines professional quality of life (ProQOL) and its association with burnout among caregivers of older adults working in long-term care facilities (Establecimientos de Larga Estadía para Adultos Mayores, ELEAM) in Chile. Data from a national survey were used for conducting descriptive analysis and regression models, considering each of the three dimensions of the Copenhagen Burnout Inventory as dependent variables: personal, work-related, and user-related burnout. One-third of caregivers reported personal burnout, one-quarter reported work-related burnout, and nearly half reporte

Employee motivators and barriers of workplace-supported blood donation.

BACKGROUND: Workplace-supported blood donation is a promising yet underexamined strategy for donor recruitment and retention. Aligning blood donation with corporate social responsibility goals may improve employee engagement while reducing logistical barriers. Although blood collection agencies worldwide adopt varied models of workplace support, limited research has examined how workplace contexts shape motivators and barriers to blood donation. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: An online self-report survey (n = 285) was conducted with employees from four large Australian organizations, each with est

Job exposures, employer characteristics, and risk of reduced work capacity: a 10-year cohort study of Norwegian workers.

OBJECTIVE: This study investigates the impact of biomechanical and psychosocial job exposures on risk of reduced work capacity in a complete cohort of Norwegian workers, and examines whether this impact varies by employer sector, size, and organizational policies. METHODS: Using high-quality Norwegian registry data, we followed a cohort of workers from age 40 over a ten-year period. Biomechanical and psychosocial job exposures were estimated using two validated job exposure matrices. Individuals with a prior history of reduced work capacity were excluded to limit confounding. Using Cox proport

Sexual Differentiation and Substance Use: A Mini-Review.

The organizational/activational hypothesis suggests that gonadal steroid hormones like testosterone (T) and estradiol (E2) are important at 2 different times during the lifespan when they perform 2 different functions. First steroids "organize" brain structures early in life and during puberty, and in adults these same hormones "activate" sexually dimorphic behaviors. This hypothesis has been tested and proven valid for a large number of behaviors (learning, memory, social, and sexual behaviors). Sex differences in drug addiction are well established both for humans and animal models. Previous

Inter-Professional Practices of Private-Sector Physiotherapists for Low Back Pain Management: Who, How, and When?

Purpose: Although there have been increasing demands for health care providers to take part in inter-professional practices in recent years, very little attention has been paid to the actualization of such practices in the private sector. This study describes private-sector physiotherapists' inter-professional practices regarding low back pain (LBP) management and identifies organizational and provider-level variables associated with the intensity of such practices. Method: A total of 327 randomly selected physiotherapists were surveyed in the province of Quebec. Data were analyzed using descr

A mixed methods examination of organizational approaches to fentanyl test strip distribution and training across multiple states.

BACKGROUND: Fentanyl test strips (FTS) have become a critical harm reduction tool, allowing people who use drugs (PWUD) to detect fentanyl in their drug supply and make informed decisions about their drug use. While FTS distribution is increasingly common, there is limited understanding of distribution strategies used by community organizations, and the education and training provided around FTS use. Given the proliferation of fentanyl in the drug supply, and the diverse motivations of PWUD, research is needed to better understand FTS distribution and training practices. This study examines FT

Reasons for delaying surgery following hip fractures and its impact on one year mortality.

PURPOSE: The purposes of this study were to identify the reasons for delayed surgery following hip fractures and analyze the impact of these reasons on 1-year mortality. METHODS: A prospective cohort study of 1234 patients with mean age of 83.1 (range 65-92, SD 8.0) who underwent hip fracture surgery compared three subgroups: (1) surgery within two days from admission (609 patients); (2) delayed surgery for medical reasons (286); and (3) delayed surgery for organizational causes (339). Medical reason was defined as the need of medical optimization of the patient prior to surgery. Pre-operativ

Causal analysis of radiotherapy safety incidents based on a hybrid model of HFACS and Bayesian network.

OBJECTIVE: This research investigates the role of human factors of all hierarchical levels in radiotherapy safety incidents and examines their interconnections. METHODS: Utilizing the human factor analysis and classification system (HFACS) and Bayesian network (BN) methodologies, we created a BN-HFACS model to comprehensively analyze human factors, integrating the hierarchical structure. We examined 81 radiotherapy incidents from the radiation oncology incident learning system (RO-ILS), conducting a qualitative analysis using HFACS. Subsequently, parametric learning was applied to the derived

Strengthening Workplace Health Promotion Through Emergency Preparedness: A Normative Mediation Analysis.

Workplace emergency preparedness is increasingly recognized as a cornerstone of occupational health promotion and prevention. Understanding the mechanisms through which institutional arrangements are associated with employees' willingness to provide emergency assistance is essential for advancing prevention science and strengthening organizational safety culture. Guided by the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), this study tested a dual-mediation structural model using survey data from 147 frontline employees in a private-sector organization engaged in high-risk operational tasks. Perceived work

A hierarchical gene-hormone model of cognitive circuit development in Turner syndrome (45,X).

Sex-chromosome dosage and pubertal hormone exposure exert powerful but temporally distinct influences on human brain development, yet their interaction has rarely been formalized within a unified mechanistic framework. Variation in X-chromosome dosage provides a unique opportunity to dissociate early organizational constraints from later modulatory processes shaping cognitive circuits. Here, we synthesize genetic, neuroimaging, neuroendocrine, and neuropsychological evidence to propose a hierarchical gene-hormone-circuit framework of cognitive development. Using Turner syndrome as a biological

[Transportation of patients with acute infarction to the closest center with available emergency angioplastic services: why, when, where, and how?].

The success of acute myocardial infarction therapy depends on the ability to achieve prompt reperfusion of the occluded coronary artery and of the corresponding microcirculation. The significant failure rate of thrombolysis and primary angioplasty, often considered as mutually exclusive therapies, is due, in daily clinical practice, to both pathophysiological factors and to delay in the access to care. The introduction of new fibrinolytic and antithrombotic drugs and the differentiated use of primary angioplasty, pre-hospital thrombolysis and rescue angioplasty according to the different risk

Hospital-Physician Integration and the Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement Program.

We examined how hospital-physician integration influences hip and knee osteoarthritis treatment under different payment models. We leveraged a natural experiment from Medicare's random assignment of metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs) to the Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement (CJR) program. In the 12 months after diagnosis, CJR was associated with more primary care physician and orthopedist visits (0.14 and 0.23, p < .001 for both), while integration was associated with fewer (-0.16 and -0.59, p < .001 for both). We discovered an extensive margin effect: CJR was associated with lower l

Preclinical Rodent Models for Human Bone Disease, Including a Focus on Cortical Bone.

Preclinical models (typically ovariectomized rats and genetically altered mice) have underpinned much of what we know about skeletal biology. They have been pivotal for developing therapies for osteoporosis and monogenic skeletal conditions, including osteogenesis imperfecta, achondroplasia, hypophosphatasia, and craniodysplasias. Further therapeutic advances, particularly to improve cortical strength, require improved understanding and more rigorous use and reporting. We describe here how trabecular and cortical bone structure develop, are maintained, and degenerate with aging in mice, rats,

How do Dark Triad traits predict workplace deviance? The moderating role of perceived organizational power distance and the mediating role of ingratiation.

BACKGROUND: Dark Triad traits have been consistently associated with workplace deviance; however, research examining how organizational conditions shape the expression of these traits is still developing. OBJECTIVES: Drawing on Trait Activation Theory, this study examined whether power distance climate (i.e., an organizational climate characterized by authority, managerial control, and employee obedience) moderates the relationship between the Dark Triad and workplace deviance. Additionally, we examined the mediating effect of ingratiation as a process of the Dark Triad and power distance cli

Improving Sterile Processing Operational Efficiency through Organizational Change.

Background: Sterile processing departments (SPDs) play a vital role in patient care through the safe and effective cleaning, inspection, sterilization, and distribution of reusable medical devices and surgical instruments. Failure in device processing may compromise infection prevention efforts and contribute to healthcare-associated infections. The increasing complexity of surgical instrumentation, particularly lumened and multicomponent devices, has increased the operational demands placed on SPD staff. Methods: A qualitative organizational improvement study was conducted in the SPD of a lev
