Since the mid-1980s a previously undescribed disease has affected moose in south-western Sweden. Investigations made to reveal evidence of a viral aetiology have proved unsuccessful. This work tackles the photochemistry of a series of mononuclear Cr0 , Mo0 and W0 carbonyl complexes containing a bidentate mesoionic carbene ligand of the 1,2,3-triazol-5-ylidene type. FTIR spectroscopy, combined with density functional theory calculations, revealed a clean photo-induced reaction in organic solvents (acetonitrile, pyridine, valeronitrile) to give mainly one photoproduct with monosubstitution of a carbonyl ligand for a solvent molecule. Using materials-scientific test methods, the author studied the effect of vacuum mixing and vibration on the setting and the thermal expansion and contraction behaviour of the investment compound "LAW-Modellgusseinbettmasse" as well as on its hardness and structure after setting. The results obtained show that vacuum processing may considerably improve the properties which are of importance in model casting.
