Minimal change nephrotic syndrome: a possible complication of ehrlichiosis.

Ehrlichiae are rickettsial organisms recently shown to be human pathogens. Infections often cause fever, myalgia, and hematological abnormalities, and sometimes mild elevation in transaminases, creatinine, and urinary protein. We report a teenager with nephrotic syndrome from minimal change glomerulonephritis and serological evidence of ehrlichiosis. In the appropriate clinical setting, Ehrlichiae should be considered in the etiological assessment of patients with minimal change disease.

A case of Guillain-Barré syndrome developed minimal change nephrotic syndrome simultaneously.

A case who developed Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) and nephrotic syndrome (NS) simultaneously is reported. In this case, the onset of nephrotic change of proteinuria coincided with the development of the neurological disturbance. Analysis of renal biopsy by light, immunofluorescent and electron microscopy showed minor glomerular abnormalities. The occurrence of GBS in association with NS is rare, and moreover most cases in the previous reports had membranous nephropathy. Only 1 case had minimal change nephrotic syndrome (MCNS). To our knowledge, this is the first report of a case beneficially

Conventional therapy for idiopathic nephrotic syndrome in children.

In children, the most frequent type of idiopathic nephrotic syndrome is the minimal-change nephrotic syndrome (MCNS). Its treatment is aimed at inducing remission, preventing relapses and avoiding side-effects. Minimal-change disease is responsive to immunosuppressive therapy. The conventional treatment consists of glucocorticosteroids and the most widely used derivative is prednisone. Initial treatment should be intensive, for example, prednisone for 12 weeks, in order to reduce the risk of subsequent relapse. Treatment of relapses should be standardized in order to categorize the patient's d

[Idiopathic nephrosis (minimal glomerular lesions, segmental and focal hyalinosis)].

Idiopathic nephrosis, the most common cause of nephrotic syndrome, is histologically defined by minimal glomerular changes, diffuse mesangial proliferation or focal and segmental glomerulosclerosis. The response to corticosteroids carries greater prognostic weight than the histological features seen on the initial renal biopsy. The severity of the condition lies in the risk of relapses which occurs in more than half of cases when steroid dosage is decreased (steroid dependency), then requiring, in case of steroid toxicity, the use of alkylating agents or, more recently, cyclosporine. In 10% of

Emerging role of Rituximab in adult minimal change disease: a narrative review of clinical evidence, biomarkers and future perspectives.

Minimal change disease (MCD) represents a significant cause of nephrotic syndrome in adults, traditionally managed with corticosteroids despite substantial relapse rates. This review critically evaluates the emerging role of rituximab (RTX) in adult MCD management, synthesizing current evidence across multiple clinical scenarios. Recent studies demonstrate RTX's multifaceted efficacy, particularly in new-onset cases and steroid-dependent/frequently relapsing patients, with the discovery of anti-nephrin antibodies providing unprecedented insights into MCD pathogenesis. RTX's therapeutic mechani
