We report the case of a 31-year-old patient on chronic hemodialysis for 17 years, after two failed kidney grafts, presently on daily home hemodialysis. She underwent follicle puncture for oocyte retrieval in the context of an in vitro fertilization program. This procedure was complicated by hemoperitoneum, requiring transfusion of 2 units of packed red blood cells and 2 units of fresh-frozen plasma, as well as an emergency laparoscopy to drain the hemoperitoneum and perform local hemostasis of the ovarian bleeding. Formation of healthy mammalian eggs from oocytes requires specialised F-actin structures. F-actin disruption produces aneuploid eggs, which are a leading cause of human embryo deaths, genetic disorders and infertility. Ureteral injury is a rare, but a serious complication in gynecological practice. During oocyte retrieval, ureteral injuries, detachment and obstruction can be seen, though rare. In this study, we will present ureteral obstruction that develops secondary to small hematoma, which mimics ovarian cyst torsion or ruptured ovarian cyst.

In this review, we examine the history of this concept, the operational models, the geographical variations, and the benefits and pitfalls of CEBs, including the ethical and legal dilemmas arising from gamete mobility. We highlight future directions in the brave new world of third-party reproduction.
