OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to characterize the leading topics in respiratory system in Spain through a bibliometric analysis.
MATERIAL AND METHOD: For identify and characterize the performance of the different research topics in respiratory system in Spain, we compile the production using a journal that turn out representative of a broad group of researcher. In this sense the journal Archivos de Bronconeumología is the most important publication in Spanish language of this field.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the clinical diagnosis of auditory neuropathy by retrospective review of the articles published in Chinese Journals in the past 10 years.
METHODS: The key word of "auditory neuropathy" was used to search all of the articles published in Chinese Journals by the Chinese Bio-medicine Literature Data Base and Chinese Journal Net from 1995 to 2004. The selected subjects of auditory function examination, diagnosis standards were analyzed, respectively.

Oral lichen planus is a relatively common T-cell mediated inflammatory disease with potential malignant transformation. It may present itself with pain and oral lesions such as ulcers and Wickhams striae. Treatment includes topical corticosteroids, preferably Clobetasol, immunosuppressive drugs and retinoids. Hyaluronic acid and aloe vera have been proven to be successful. If topical treatment fails, systemic therapy with corticosteroids may be needed. Because of the potential malignant transformation periodic follow-up is mandatory.

Lupoid perioral dermatitis is classified as a special form of perioral dermatitis with dense aggregations of red-brown papules which display a lupoid infiltrate on diascopy. There are various treatment options ranging from total avoidance of all topical substances to different topical treatment. Cases resistant to therapy require systemic treatment, which, however, is off-label use. In our case we were able to achieve a significant improvement with systemic therapy with isotretinoin over a period of 6 months.

A 19-year-old male patient with chronic cutaneous leishmania is was treated topically with paromomycin sulphate (15%) and methylbenzethonium chloride (12%) in petrolatum album. After application twice daily for two periods of 32 and 44 days the lesions were completely healed. Previous treatment for 9 months with ketoconazole (400 mg/day) together with the topical application of thiabendazole (2.5%) in base had been unsuccessful. No major side effects were observed after paromomycin sulphate application.

Vernal keratoconjunctivitis (VKC) is a chronic and potentially sight-threatening disease. PURPOSE: To report the demographic profile, clinical presentation, and management outcomes of ocular surface squamous neoplasia (OSSN) treated with primary topical chemotherapy in a limited resource secondary eye care facility in rural parts of South India.
METHODS: Retrospective interventional study of 38 eyes of 37 patients with OSSN treated with topical 1% 5-Fluorouracil (5FU), over a period of two years.

Surgically induced necrotizing scleritis (SINS) is an immune-mediated condition that rarely occurs after ocular surgeries with a latency period of days to years. We present a case of a 49-year-old man who developed bilateral SINS two weeks after uneventful bilateral pterygium excision with conjunctival autografts. He was managed with a course of oral prednisolone, topical antibiotic ointment, topical non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and lubricants, and close follow-up and rheumatological consultation.

Treatment of the vulvar squamous cell hyperplasia and lichen sclerosus et atrophicus by topical using of corticosteroids and 2% testosterone ointment. The period of observation was from 6 months to 18 months. All patients showed clinical improvement or full regression depending on the period of disease. In a prospective open trial 40 patients suffering from acute herpes zoster ophthalmicus were treated with systemic acyclovir. An additional 10 patients were treated by topical acyclovir alone and dexamethasone eye-drops were administered to 5 of them to suppress ocular inflammation. In the topical treatment group the period of new skin lesion formation and progression of ocular inflammatory signs were significantly prolonged. Three patients with chronic discoid psoriasis are described as having a generalized pustular eruption provoked by the topical use of betamethasone-dipropionate ointment (0.05%) over extensive skin areas for two or three weeks. All the lesions were nearly healed when the rash erupted.
