Variations in maladaptive personality patterns and depressive symptoms' severity across personality functioning profiles in a community sample.

Dimensional models of personality disorders, such as those proposed in the ICD-11 and the Alternative Model of Personality Disorders (AMPD) in the DSM-5, emphasize personality functioning and maladaptive personality traits, moving beyond the traditional categorical approach to personality disorders. Personality dysfunctions can co-occur with depressive symptoms; however, this relationship has been relatively understudied in the context of these dimensional frameworks. The purpose of the present study was to explore the heterogeneity of personality functioning profiles, including coexisting mala

Unveiling the psychological traits of multi-marathoners: Insights from TIPI personality trait analysis.

OBJECTIVES: Multi-marathoners, athletes dedicated to completing 100 + marathons, represent a unique endurance sport subculture. This study examines their psychological traits using the Ten Item Personality Inventory (TIPI) and Latent Class Analysis (LCA) to identify personality-based profiles and subgroup differences. METHODS: An online cross-sectional survey of 593 multi-marathoners (56% men, 44% women, mean age =  53.87, SD =  9.91, countries = 22) collected TIPI data. Reliability was assessed using Cronbach's Alpha and Guttman's Lambda 6. Statistical analyses included Mann-Whitney U tests,

The effect of state anxiety on personality measurement.

The authors examined the effect of state anxiety on the personality test scores of 56 patients receiving treatment for panic disorder and agoraphobia. The tests were administered before treatment and again 6 weeks later. For the 40 patients who improved by 5 or more points on the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale, significant changes in personality measures were observed at week 6, including increased emotional strength and extraversion and decreased interpersonal dependency. The authors conclude that state anxiety, like depression, is a possible confounding factor in personality measurement, and

Adult separation anxiety: Personality characteristics of a neglected clinical syndrome.

Over the past two decades, interest in the relationship between personality and psychopathology has resurged. However, the clinical problem of adult separation anxiety (ASA) has been largely excluded from this endeavor due to the age-of-onset criterion in older editions of the DSM that prohibited first-onset diagnoses in adulthood. This study tests relationships between ASA symptoms and higher- and lower-order personality traits in a community sample of 565 women. It accounts for systematic error by utilizing informant report, two personality inventories, and data from two time points over thr

Neurocognitive and personality factors in homo- and heterosexual pedophiles and controls.

INTRODUCTION: Several neuropsychological studies have suggested an association between pedophilia, neurocognitive disturbances, and specific personality profiles. However, inconsistencies in the findings have not been explained sufficiently, because many studies did not control for possible confounding factors, such as age, education level, or gender orientation. AIM: Therefore, the present investigation examined neurocognitive performance and personality profiles in pedophiles in dependence of sexual gender preferences and sexual deviance, as well as with regard to age and education level.

Intellectual and personality changes associated with carotid endarterectomy.

Eleven patients with at least 40-50% carotid artery stenosis were given intelligence and personality tests just prior to and 6 weeks after carotid endarterectomy, a surgical procedure designed to remove arteriosclerotic blockage. When compared with 8 control patients, endarterectomy patients showed increases in Perceptual-Organization IQ, decreases in time to complete a perceptual motor task, and significant reductions in suspicion, confusion, disorientation, and other personality symptoms generally associated with senility.

Unstable identity and prefrontal injury.

INTRODUCTION: In neuropsychological research, "organic personality disorder", lack of social insight, and executive dysfunctions have been identified in patients with prefrontal brain injury. The assessment of personality change has, in particular, been a methodological challenge in this field of research. The aim of the present pilot study was to examine personality aspects in patients with prefrontal brain injury from a neuropsychological as well as a psychodynamic point of view. METHODS: A total of 13 adults with personality change as a manifest sequel after sudden onset brain injury were

The effect of personality on likelihood of contracting SARS-CoV-2 in the United States.

This study investigated whether personality differences affect the likelihood of contracting SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. Personality is associated with personally controllable virus protective behaviors, and adoption of these protective measures influences the likelihood of contracting SARS-CoV-2. Previous research also indicates relationships between personality and virus infection. Therefore, it was predicted that personality differences would influence the likelihood of contracting SARS-CoV-2. Participants were 6158 volunteers (53 % female, age M = 50.63, SD = 15.33) in the

The relationship between explicit and implicit personality: Evidence from the Big Five and trait emotional intelligence.

The main aim of this study is to introduce an implicit personality assessment method (e.g., implicit association test) to Kuwait. We adapted an existing personality-related implicit association test (IAT; Big Five IAT), while also constructed the first trait EI IAT based on Petrides' four-factor model. We investigated the psychometric properties of the implicit association test through assessing the reliability of scores and also their relationship with their corresponding explicit measures. The measures were administered to 1458 university students in Kuwait. The zero-order correlations showe

Changing attitudes and enhancing competency: personality disorder initiative.

BackgroundMental health clinicians often hold negative perceptions of people living with personality disorder, particularly borderline personality disorder (BPD), contributing to stigma and reduced access to effective care. The Personality Disorder Initiative (PDI) was a Victorian government-funded program to improve workforce capacity through sustained training and clinical supervision.AimsTo evaluate the impact of the PDI on clinician attitudes and self-perceived competence when working with people diagnosed with personality disorders, particularly BPD.MethodsA statewide pre-post survey was

Rolling in the Deep of Personality: Psychometric Properties of the Structured Interview of Personality Organization - Revised (STIPO-R) in Italy.

The STIPO-R (Structured Interview of Personality Organization - Revised) is an interview assessing personality organization across five major functional domains (identity, object relations, defenses, aggression, moral values). In contrast to a-theoretical models, the STIPO-R offers a theoretically grounded conceptualization of personality pathology based on object-relations theory. This study tests psychometric properties of the interview across mixed psychiatric patients (N = 180) and community individuals (N = 170) in Italy. Confirmatory Factor Analysis indicated that a bifactor model with f

Clinical, cognitive and neuropsychiatric correlates of personality in Wilson's disease.

INTRODUCTION: Wilson's disease (WD) is an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by hepatic, neurologic, or psychiatric symptoms. Compared to other recognized clinical symptoms, the personality profile of WD patients remains under-investigated. This study compared personality traits in a sample of adults with WD and healthy controls (HC). Moreover, we assessed the cognitive and affective correlates of personality within the WD group. METHODS: We enrolled 20 patients affected with genetically confirmed WD, with prevalent extrapyramidal symptoms, and 20 age and education-matched HC. Partici

Housing and personality effects on judgement and attention biases in dairy cows.

Affective states can be inferred from responses to ambiguous and threatening stimuli, using Judgement Bias Tasks (JBTs) and Attention Bias Tasks (ABTs). We investigated the separate and interactive effects of personality and housing conditions on dairy cattle affective states. We assessed personality in 48 heifers using Open-Field, Novel-Object and Runway tests. Personality effects on responses to the JBT and to the ABT were examined when heifers were housed under reference conditions. Heifers were subsequently housed under positive or negative conditions, and housing effects on animal respons

The sociocommunicative deficit subgroup in anorexia nervosa: autism spectrum disorders and neurocognition in a community-based, longitudinal study.

BACKGROUND: A subgroup of persons with anorexia nervosa (AN) have been proposed to have sociocommunicative problems corresponding to autism spectrum disorders [ASDs, i.e. DSM-IV pervasive developmental disorders (PDDs): autistic disorder, Asperger's disorder, PDD not otherwise specified (NOS)]. Here, clinical problems, personality traits, cognitive test results and outcome are compared across 16 subjects (32%) with teenage-onset AN who meet or have met ASD criteria (AN+ASD), 34 ASD-negative AN subjects and matched controls from a longitudinal Swedish study including four waves of independent a

A woman lost in the cemetery: A case of time-limited amnesia.

A 43-year-old woman one day experienced a dissociative fugue which she could not recall. She was married, nulliparous, with no history of dissociative disorder or other psychiatric disorders. She had been sexually abused during late childhood-early adolescence. She was examined thoroughly from both psychiatric and medical standpoints to exclude organic causes for her condition. Magnetic Resonance Imaging showed only some non-specific abnormalities. On personality tests, a histrionic structure of personality emerged, with obsessive and narcissistic traits accompanied by rigidity and anxiety, dy

Borderline personality symptomatology as a mediator of the link between child maltreatment and adult suicide potential.

UNLABELLED: The present study tests borderline personality symptoms as meditational pathways between child maltreatment and suicide potential among college students. A sample of 268 participants completed a questionnaire battery including demographic data, the Comprehensive Child Maltreatment Scale, Inventory of Altered Self-Capacities, and Personality Assessment Inventory. RESULTS: Three multiple mediation models (1 for each type of child maltreatment) were conducted. Results demonstrated that the same set of borderline personality characteristics mediated the relations between each type of

Personality Determinants of Success in Men's Sports in the Light of the Big Five.

The aim of the study is to describe personality profiles and determinants of success in sports in relation to the Big Five Personality Model. In order to achieve this aim, personality profiles of players from various sports disciplines was set against the personality profile of champions-players who are considerably successful in sports competitions. Subsequently, an attempt was made to determine which personality traits significantly determine belonging to the group of champions-and therefore determine success in sport. The participants were men aged between 20 and 29 from the Polish populati

RASopathies are associated with a distinct personality profile.

Personality is a complex, yet partially heritable, trait. Although some Mendelian diseases like Williams-Beuren syndrome are associated with a particular personality profile, studies have failed to assign the personality features to a single gene or pathway. As a family of monogenic disorders caused by mutations in the Ras/MAPK pathway known to influence social behavior, RASopathies are likely to provide insight into the genetic basis of personality. Eighty subjects diagnosed with cardiofaciocutaneous syndrome, Costello syndrome, neurofibromatosis type 1, and Noonan syndrome were assessed usin

The relationship between disease activity, quality of life, and personality types in rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis patients.

We hypothesized that clinical outcomes might be influenced by personality type (A, B, C, D) in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and ankylosing spondylitis (AS). One hundred ninety-four patients (104 with RA, 90 with AS) participated in a questionnaire study. We evaluated health-related quality of life (HRQoL) using the Medical Outcome Study Short-Form 36 (SF-36), personality type A/B with the Jenkins Activity Survey, type C with the State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory Anger-in Scale, type D with the Type D Personality Scale, and disease activity with Disease Activity Score with 28 joints for RA an
